The Black Swan

I attended a charity showing of this last night and even today I still can't shake the spooks it leaves you with.  It has Natalie Portman who is for sure going to get an award for her role as a principal in what I suppose is the NYC Ballet Company.  They never identify the company, but it's the inference at who rehearses at the Lincoln Center.

She's haunting.  Staggeringly good.  The whole thing leaves you with the spooks for quite some time.

I will agree Natalie Portman played an amazing part and her acting was superb!  As for the movie I liked it not loved it.  I would give it a 6 and most likely won't watch it again.
I do think she will win something for it, and she should.
The hype on this movie was high and maybe that's why I expected more from the story line.

I really wanted to see this, but then I found out it's the same director as the film Pi and uses the same awful, shaky-cam crap that made me so nauseous in Pi I had to leave the cinema. Now I'm not so sure I want to gamble a tenner and possibly have to run out puking midway through. :(

I found her superb, but didn't really feel it until the end of the film. At the end, the dancing is stunning, which makes you feel how much she held back when dancing in the rest of the film. It takes huge amounts of skill and dedication to do that and I am seriously impressed.

I think part of my 'meh' reaction to this film stems from the fact that I spent most of my young life as a professional ballet dancer.  I thought some of it was a bit camp and overdone and the ending was unbelievable.  As in, not at all believable.  I feel like I should see it again, since many people whose opinions on films I really respect have enjoyed it quite a bit.

But, initially I think I rated it a 4 to ChillyWilly or maybe it was 2.  Not my cup of tea.

Now, True Grit- there's a film worth watching.  It's difficult to get through (if you're not big into some violence) but the acting is superb.  The leading *young* lady is the next Jodie Foster.

One other thing I forgot to mention is that if you get absorbed into the psychological intensity, it wouldn't be until a long time afterwards that you realized you sat through one of the steamiest sex scenes in recent memory.

Now I'm adding in that I did the same thing for a showing of True Grit.

And WOW!

Sometimes you see great acting, sometimes you see great direction, and every once in a while you see both.  WOW!

And what did you think about the cinematography? I thought it was incredible.  Incredible.

Perfect lighting after perfect lighting.  How they captured the golden haze of the sunlight is reminiscent of the classic French cinematographers.  This movie has GOT to pull down awards big time  :D

I saw Black Swan last weekend. I thought Natalie Portman was superb, I got caught up in her crazies, and I could feel her stress over being the principal, but the ending absolutely sucked. Like Sarah said, it was completely unbelievable.

I saw Black Swan last weekend with my husband. I think Natalie Portman's acting in the movie was really great, as it always is. After awhile I got so sick of the same music being played over and over. It made the movie more intense and left me feeling uneasy afterwards. I still have mixed feelings about it. It is definitely not the kind of movie where you know what it's going to be like before you watch it. I felt bad for my husband because he had to keep closing his eyes at the bloody parts. Haha. I think he liked the movie more than I did though.

I saw the Black Swan, I liked it, but I didn't think it was amazing.  I found it very predictable and had pretty much every ballet/dance cliche in the book.  The beginning scene with the pointe shoes was very reminscent of Center Stage.

True Grit on the other hand, amazing.

Just an FYI - most of the dancing in the film *isn't* Natalie Portman - her face is CGI'd (or whatever they do - photoshop? who knows) onto the dancers body. She sure did do A LOT of preparation for the role, but one year alone of no matter how "intense" ballet training cannot make you anywhere near believable as a principal in a ballet company.

And I won't be watching it :-( after seeing some more clips from the film, I think it is a true horror film and I am kind of a wimp.

If you want a cool behind-the-scenes on the CGI in the movie, watch the clip at this link (however, beware - there are spoilers if you haven't seen the movie): http://www.badassdigest.com/2011/01/27/black-swan-is-full-of-cgi

I saw the movie last week and was impressed, portman did an amazing job. The Final "black swan" dance scene was beautiful. I will say I was a bit shocked at the amount of sex acts in the movie :o, I almost invited my mom to come see the movie with me and I'm glad I didn't cause that would have been a bit uncomfortable to say the least lol. Its a movie I'll buy and watch again.

I almost went to see this with my brother and his girlfriend when I was in the states - I'm so glad I didn't if there's loads of sex!!

Reading the reviews here I doubt I'll see it all, really.
