"Bump"
« on: January 06, 2011, 11:43:08 AM »
I have searched the threads and can't find anything on this....

I have a jones for celebrity gossip and it seems that a lot of times when a pregnant lady is mentioned, "the bump" is refered to in a slightly negative way.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Not that I've noticed, all the celeb stories about so-and-so announcing she's pregnant seem very positive to me.  Any journalist being negative about a woman's body when she's pregnant is crazy (or maybe that's just my 32 weeks along hormones talking).

I agree; it seems more a fascination with it being more official (oooh, look! we can see!) than any real negativity.  Now, that "after baby weight loss" obsession, that's something else.

I think a lot of times it could be seen as negative because there's always speculation about if she is or isn't pregnant.  Sometimes you might read, "She claims she isn't pregnant but that looks like a bump to me", which could come across as negative-sounding.  Also, many celebs are accused of having pregnant bumps when they aren't pregnant...which would definitely be a negative thing.

But if you're talking about obviously pregnant women with huge bellies....while I was pregnant, I was fascinated by what celebs where pregnant at the same time (it always seems that everyone is pregnant while you are) and I can't remember ever seeing anything that seemed negative about pregnant bellies.
