transferring Amex credit card to UK
« on: January 06, 2011, 02:10:25 PM »
Hi everyone,

Well I applied to transfer my US Amex to a UK Amex. They did do a credit check but hopefully it will work because I have my other US card already. I was sent a letter asking for a utility/bank bill for proof of address and a certified copy of my passport. I sent that off and today I've gotten a phone call from them asking me to call them back.

I was wondering, for others who have done this Amex transfer, did you get a phone call like this? I looked up the phone number and it says it's from Creditworlduk.com, not Amex. And the website doesn't seem to work.

I know there are lots of credit card scams where people call you and request information. I'm going to contact Amex to see if they received my documents and did in fact call me before I call this number back.

Anyway, you can't be too careful these days, and was hoping someone else here could tell me what happened when they did their card transfer.

Thanks!
Tevian :)

I know I talked to someone at Amex after sending in my documents - I can't recall if I called them or they called me, though. They did confirm that I'd been approved and my card would be arriving shortly. It arrived about a week later, as I recall.

Seems like one of our members works for AMX-UK in Brighton so hopefully she is still on here and she can help you.

That's good to know that you talked to someone before you got your card. Did they ask you any info or did they just literally tell you you were approved and that was it?

I don't think they confirmed anything other than my name. If I remember correctly, I called them to check in as it'd been about 3 weeks since I'd sent off my documents and I hadn't heard back, and they just told me I was approved and what the next step was.

Oh ok, thanks for the info. I better make sure who it was that called me then.

Just want to let anyone else who is trying to go the Amex route to establish credit to know that I got the card. I actually applied for a US card after I moved here (I only found out I could transfer my card after I moved) and gave them my mother's address. A few months later I called them up and said I had moved here and wanted to transfer my card. I had to apply and I actually put down that I don't work on my application - this was fine provided the household income was ok. I was a little worried about that but it was fine.

It was them who did call me. I called back and apparently my certified passport copy wasn't up to standard. They send you a letter with exactly what the person has to write for the certified copy, and the person did it slightly different. So I had to go get another one done, and had to make sure she copied it word for word. Theres also a list of things they have to write, like their position, the (in my case post office) address, etc. Even the second time the person got it partly wrong and I had to ask her to redo it. So for anyone getting their certified copy to send in, make sure its exactly right.

 :)
