Currently hating the mail system...

I ordered some DVDs from Play.com last Saturday and I got an email on the Sunday to say they'd been posted. Delivery is supposed to be 3-5 working days... but it's now been 7 working days and there's still no sign of them (in fact, I don't think we've received any post at all since last Wednesday... not sure if that's because there hasn't been anything else to deliver or if it's because something is holding it up). Annoyingly, I don't think I can do anything else but wait at the moment because the Play.com website says they can't investigate the non-arrival of an item until 21 days after the dispatch date (and I have no way to track the items) .

this worries me now, as my husband is going to have to send some documents to me to apply for my settlement visas.  problem is that he won't have the grandmajority of them until, possibly, late february!  here's to hoping fedex is less affected and that everything with both mail systems clear up soon!

Hubby's mum sent us a package of cards mailed from the UK on Dec 13, we got it yesterday   At least our oldest's birthday cards got here in time!

Have him use FedEx. NEVER, EVER send visa related documents through Royal Mail or US Mail.

My sister's package, which was mailed on 10 Dec, arrived in PA yesterday. I mailed 2 other packages the same day, one to the same zip code, both of which arrived on 15 Dec. No rhyme or reason. 

We just got the last three weeks of Private Eye yesterday! It felt sort of like a late Christmas present, but still, those an important part of my reading week!

Here's my tidbit to add...

Two days ago I received in our postbox--a Christmas card that I had mailed to the States on November 30th. It was returned for inadequate postage (And it's probably totally my fault that it happened---i was mailing out a ton of cards that day and one slipped past in the pile without a stamp)

So, on the one hand, it's a miracle it was returned to me at all. It could have easily been tossed aside and forgotten. On the other hand, returned 2 months after the fact?? Obviously it's a little late to be resending my Christmas cards. 

Chalk me up as another dissatisfied customer.  I sent a wedding gift to my friends in Pittsburgh over 3 weeks ago and they still haven't received it. There is a chance it's at US customs. On the custom form I described it as 'art work' (which I'm kicking myself for) and that it was a gift. There was also a wedding card in the package. Is there anything I can do? I didn't track it because it's useless once it leaves Ireland.

I mailed myself 2 identical large packages from the US last Monday.  My dad mailed me a small padded envelope yesterday (because I'm a doofus and left my hat in my car).  The 3-way race is ON! 

I have been trying to track down the package my sister sent me. I contacted parcel force and they said they have no information on it, so to contact the USPS. MY mom just called them and apparently since this package was sent priority and not express it is not traceable. it was sent on December 13, 2010.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Is there anything at all I can do?   

Not only were there Christmas presents in there, but they also forwarded us some very important mail from the IRS.

Someone in California sent me a box of See's chocolates on 5 January and it's still not here yet. I hope they're still edible when they do arrive.

Aww, that delay sucks! As a self-considered expert on Sees, I think you're fine! We used to sell it for candy drives at school, and there was often at least a month between the orders coming in and us distributing it, and no one ever complained!

(Is it nuts and chews? Ohhhh, I miss nuts and chews!)

Sometimes I go on See's website and make up boxes of my favorites.  I never actually order them, I just browse and dream.  LOL

Some friends mailed me a New Orleans Saints shirt  that DW had ordered to be sent to them before we visited in November but it didn't arrive before we left.

She sent it to us from NJ last Saturday and on Thursday when we got home from work there was a card for us to collect it from post office....now that is quick!

Sent something registered mail/special delivery back to the  US a couple of weeks ago..and yet, no record/tracking record in the system.  Why bother paying extra?
