Knives?

Hello,

I'm applying for my civil partner visa in the next couple of weeks and, after worrying about whether or not I'll get denied for the past 7 months, I'm not decently sure that I'll get it.  I've started thinking about moving my things over in the most cost-effective way.  I don't have tons to move (mostly since I've been slowly moving things over for the past year or so), but one thing that I do need to get over still is my cooking knives.  I've had them for about 5 years and would be loathe to get rid of them--not least because they cost me tons!

Do any of you know what the best way of moving them is?  I'll probably be taking BA over with two suitcases which will in all likelihood be enough to bring everything I still have here so I don't mind putting my knives in there, but is that allowed?  Would it be better to mail them?  Is that even possible?

I'm sorry if this is a very banal question, but I'm trying to distract myself from worrying about my visa by worrying about little things like this instead.

You definitely won't be allowed to pack them as a carry on item.

Probably the best thing to do is send them via UPS or pack them in your checked baggage.

i had a dagger to bring over with me.........did quite a bit of checking on that and i was not allowed to take on ship or fly over......the postal service does allow mailing of knives but would most definately read up on it as there are some stipulations.......i ended up leaving my dagger with a friend as i cannot risk losing it........also have my bb gun from when i was a lil girl and there is no way i can get it over here.......that sucks

We got a few kitchen knives as wedding presents, 2 big, 2 small.  I just had them in my checked luggage no problem.  They were still in original packaging though....so maybe that made a difference.  I would call the airline and ask.  I can't remember if it was American or BA that we flew that time.

I flew with BA and did not have a problem bringing my 10 Chicago Cuttery Knives in checked baggage.

I know in 2005 I brought a set of steak knives (in original packaging) over in checked luggage with BA.  Unfortunately the cooking knives I brought over I did so in a shipping container so that's no help.

Bring 'em in your checked baggage.  I have always carried knifes in my checked baggage- be it my leatherman - (and I brought my kitchen knifes over with me in checked baggage when I moved) -and just came back from the US with a super-loaded Swiss Army knife that I got as a Christmas gift.  I've never had an issue.
