Citizenship – Proof of Residency
« on: January 20, 2011, 09:57:41 AM »
DH arrived in the UK on December 12 2007 on a Fiancé Visa. He now holds ILR. So, I think, as my spouse he’s now eligible for citizenship?

Assuming I’m correct, my question relates to proving how long he’s been in the UK. I washed (and ruined!) his passport in 2009 whilst we were visiting his parents. We applied for a replacement while in the US, but the US Passport Authority didn’t return the old one – just a photocopy of his visa (which was FLR at the time), stating that the old passport had to be destroyed. The old passport obviously contained his original entry stamp from back in 2007.

Without the original entry stamp, is there any other way of proving the length of his residency?

I’ve looked at the forms and the UKBA website, which does mention sending in letters from employers etc if there is no passport to send. I’m just not sure if that would apply to this situation or one where the applicant has no passport at all. Does anyone know? I'm hoping I'm not the first person to ruin a passport! Thanks!

I would think that if you have other documentation from his arrival, like bills in his name, a phone contract, GP registration, boarding passes, etc., you can show that he's been here since then. You would then have to explain in a letter about the passport. I'm not sure what else you could do.
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012
FINALLY A CITIZEN! 29/2/2012

Do you have access to the tickets?  Perhaps he bought them online and still has the information saved in an old email?

Thank you both for your replies :)
I'll have to see if we still have the boarding passes/tickets etc.
Just really looking forward to this visa/immigration nonsense being over!
Thanks again.

Would copies of tax forms help to establish residency?
