Hello all!

Very glad to have found this website and forum to begin my journey!  I look forward to learning and eventually sharing knowledge regarding the ex-pat process.  For now I'm happy to share anything that may be of use to other members of any locale!

I'm a motivational speaker and author drawing inspiration from challenges, journeys, success, and failure; both my own and experiences of others.  I was born with a strong sense of wanderlust and it continues to motivate me.  I've lived all over the U.S. and traveled extensively both domestically and in the Caribbean.  I've traveled frequently in the western EU and would love to hang my hat in the UK in the future.  I'm not drawn to the UK by a particular job or family ties as many ex-pats may have been.  I'm drawn by a love for the folks with whom I've become friends over the years, the landscape, the history, traditions, sports, humour, etc.

I am fortunate to call my laptop (and available internet service) my 'office', and have the freedom of independence (no spouse or children, at least not yet in my 40 years of living  ;D).  I hope to incorporate those benefits into a future full of travels and new experiences and friends, and an eventual status as a 'UK Yankee'.

Today begins my journey and I am happy to be here!

Cheers,

Gretchen

Hello and welcome from a fellow Ohioan!  :)
I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.' Kurt Vonnegut

Welcome! Yours is the life I wish to have once my kids are grown.  I love to travel! Hope you find the info you need.  :)
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

Thanks all!  Going to look around the site this evening since my dinner function had to be postponed....snowing like mad all day, supposed to be sub-zero temps and high winds over night.  Good night for a fire and the lappy!
