Airfares from US are expensive!

I've been looking for flights from UK to US and they've rocketed since last year.

Even more bizarre - looking at Manchester to NY it was £962 for the 2 of us on Delta and £890 on US Air (via Philly), given we'll be going to Philly as well I decided to see what US Air would be to Philly....it was £50 more than if I booked a connecting flight to NY and Delta showed up at about £890 to go to Philly via NY! Just doesn't make sense!

Alot of airfares are down to taxes...each airport charges a landing fee which is incorporated into the fee of the ticket..its crazy..and also there are several different classes of economy fares...when I did travel the cheapest was a S class?? been 6 years tho.

It's hard to believe, my first trip to England in April 2004, I flew non-stop from Seattle to Heathrow for $400.     Dollars!!  And now I'm happy to find $800 tickets.

I get annoyed about this every time I fly to Benbecula.  The actual fare from Glasgow is usually only 20-30 pounds, but by the time all the taxes and fees are on, it's nearer 100.  It pretty much triples the cost. 

Initially, I was kind of glad to know that there's some kind of island residents discount scheme, where we can get reduced airfare.  But if that only applies to the actual fare itself, it's really not much help.  Saving 10 pounds off a 100 pound trip is better than nothing, but doesn't exactly make it affordable to get to the mainland.

I hear you on the flying out to the islands.  It isn't any better to fly to Stornoway.  You have flights that are 25 pounds each way, but then the taxes hit!!!  We figure it's cheaper to drive if we have 2 or more people.

wow your lucky for a resident discount we don't get ANYTHING on our island....you virtually have to hand them the vaseline!!!
