Confused about FBAR
« on: February 02, 2011, 10:02:08 AM »
My husband wants to add me to his accounts.  We would be joint owners then.  When Filing FBAR form for jointly owned bank accts, do I list myself as the principal owner on part 3?   What about my husband- he is a NRA?   Where do you include that information???

I know it's sometimes convenient to have joint accounts and sharing within a marriage is good. However, in this case I'd keep your finances as separate as possible. Don't have joint accounts.

I list both my name and DH's name on the form. He is also NRA. No reason not to have joint bank accounts if that's what you want. You can still file taxes as married filing separately.  It does not make your DH liable to pay US tax.

Does he sign the form? The account  pays interest annually.  Do you list the account on Schedule B and put 0 for interest or calculate what will have been paid -P * R * D / 365 although no interest will be added until the next year?
