Montanan Looking to Move to England
« on: February 02, 2011, 05:42:38 PM »
Hi all,
I currently live in Montana but I am originally from Virginia. I am looking to move to England. I am just starting to gather information and slowly get things together to do it. I am just starting to look into getting a visa. I am looking to get a job over there perhaps as an Au Pair as I know that makes obtaining a visa alot easier. I am just really ready to finally take the plunge and move and am really looking forward to it.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome.

Look around especially at the visa section.  Things change rapidly, but unless you are highly skilled, have a lot of money, have a British spouse, or are going to go to school here, getting a visa is pretty much impossible.

I'm afraid getting one to be an au pair is not going to work, but you might qualify in another way.

US Citizens cannot be Au Pairs in the UK. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Au Pairs now come under the Youth Mobility Scheme (Tier 5 YMS) which US Citizens are not allowed to participate:

Quote
The youth mobility scheme is for young people from participating countries who would like to come and experience life in the UK.

The countries in the scheme are:

Australia
Canada
Japan
New Zealand
Monaco

The only option for you to work in the UK is under Tier 2 (General).

I've never gotten food on my underpants!
Work permit (2007) to British Citizen (2014)
You're stuck with me!
