Will have my first driving lesson tonight. NERVOUS!
« on: February 03, 2011, 12:00:14 PM »
I live in Greater London. Have been driving (in U.S.) for 40+ years, but not yet driven over here. When we moved back here, 6 months ago, I had a total of 3 driving lessons from my husband and it just did NOT go well. (He's not a patient man.) Totally crushed my self-confidence and I am normally a very self-confident person.  :\\\'(

I've been studying driver's manual, taking the online practice tests (for the theory exam), and paying close attention anytime I am riding in the car.  (I've booked the theory exam in for early March.)

So anyway, I'm to the point now where I just have to do this so I've booked a block of lessons in with an AA instructor who is coming by tonight for the initial 2-hour lesson.

Anyone have any advice or tell me what to expect this evening?

Thank you!

You made the right choice by going with professional lessons! (my husband was the same way) It's going to be different at first but just try to relax and really take in what your instructor says. I was always arguing with mine about why my style of driving was superior. And it may very well be superior, but I did realize at some point it wasn't going to allow me to pass my test. So I played along and passed the test of my first attempt. Within a few months of having my license, I reverted back to being the confident driver I was in the US. Now it feels just as natural to drive over here as it does over there. I never thought I'd feel that way!

Good luck tonight!
Let them eat cupcakes!

Officially Britishly since August 2013

Thank you, Cupcake. I wish I had some cupcakes right about now. About a dozen of them!  ;D

I'm going to cross-post my original message to the "The few, the brave...those of us taking driving lessons right now" thread.

Cheers.  :)
