Thank you all for your advice. My parents refuse to watch my dog from June to September and I've no friends willing to watch her either. I can't leave her in a kennel because it just wouldn't be fair to her.

I have no idea what I'm going to do. My heart is absolutely broken and I've been crying pretty much non-stop for the past 48 hours.

I knew that I would be sacrificing a lot when I agreed to move to the UK but I never thought one of those sacrifices would be my dog. I never thought my parents would refuse to take her on for just a few months. I don't know where to go from here.

You could contact one of the pet moving companies to see if they have recommendations for someone to take care of your dog.  They might recommend a kennel/sitter which is on par cost-wise with quarantine, but might be less "kennel-like".

We used a pet shipper and it was expensive, but worth the piece of mind.  We were lucky, however, to have a friend who was willing to watch our cat until he was PETS ready.  However, the shippers must deal with people in situations like yours so they might have options for you.

Can you not just wait out the time with your dog? Postpone your own move until she is ready?

That's what I did so I could bring my cat over with me. In my case, it was a question of waiting for them to extend PETS to the US (back in 2002) ... I remember checking online every day to see if it had gone through before I could really start planning my move. Leaving him behind was a sacrifice I wouldn't have been willing to make.  :-\\\\

That's what we did, too.  My husband made the move (job transfer) in July and our cats wouldn't hit the 6 month mark until October, so I stayed in the US with them.  Our cats are elderly and have some special needs and I couldn't put them -- or me -- through the stress of quarantine or staying with someone else in the US.

It's been a while since I've replied to anyone in this thread.

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and their suggestions. It was very much appreciated!

Sadly, my pup was re-homed. I flew out to Wales for 2 weeks in March. During that time my mom found a new home for Pitty (my pup). I was completely floored and heartbroken beyond belief. As melodramatic as it may sound, I was devastated that I "never got to say goodbye" to her. Going back home to the US was so unbelievably hard. It may sound ridiculous, but Pitty was the one that kept me together every time I was missing my fiance. I couldn't fathom coming home with a broken heart from missing my boy only to be compounded by the loss of my dog.

I still miss her A LOT and if I think of her for too long, I totally cry. However, I am happy to announce that 4 months later, my fiance is now my husband and Pitty's new mom and I speak on a regular basis thanks to Facebook! I couldn't have imagined a better family for Pitty. She lives in a home now with 2 very active children (12 and 16), 2 dogs (a fellow border collie and a blue heeler) and a handful of cats. She is doing so well and her new family absolutely adores her.

I am now in the midst of filling out my spouse visa and will hopefully be with my husband very soon. I'm crossing my fingers that before too long, the sound of puppy paws pitter-pattering about will fill our home!
