Hello from Oregon and onto London
« on: February 08, 2011, 05:24:22 AM »
Hello, my name is Zarah  ;D I live in Portland and work in advertising and was told that my husband are being transferred to the agency's London office! Very excited because we're both getting a promotion but sad to leave! We both love Portland and it's where my husband's from :/
I grew up in Tehran then Los Angeles so the whole fresh air thing took some getting used to but I eventually fell in love with Portland ;) But I think we'll fall in love with London too  :) I've never been but we're going on a trip there in a few weeks to look around and look for a place to live!

Hiya!  My name is Taurean.  I lived in Portland for 7 years and went to Reed for my BA and then PSU for my MA in French lit, so I think now I tell people that that's where I'm from since it's where I became an adult.  It's great to see another Portlander on here, although I warn you that the difference between what you're used to in Portland and your life in London is going to be incredible.  Also, a word to the wise: if you guys are at all into the Portland coffee scene (and I guess you may be, given your industry and that, if you work for who I think you work for, your office is right across the street from Barista in the Pearl), you should either bring a supply of beans with you or set up a supplier over there, because most coffee in the UK isn't anywhere near as good as Portland and, if you can find it, it will be ridiculously expensive.

If you guys ever want to wax nostalgic about how great Portland is once you're in London, let me know.  I'll be in Brighton, but I'll likely be working in London and, even if I'm not, I'll be up several times a month since it's only a ten pound train ride up there.

Thank you for the tip about the coffee :) I would die without it!
And I've lived in Portland since I was 22 so I feel the same way about it

Hi there:
We moved to Hampshire from Seattle, so I can commiserate about the (lack of good) coffee in the UK. My mom lives in Brookings, OR on the south coast. I am flying to Portland in 10 weeks and really looking forward to it!
