Its an English name...
« on: February 15, 2011, 01:42:06 AM »
So I'm in Florida with my family this week, and my Mother is introducing my kids to everyone...so when she introduces Imogen, without fail, she says "And this is Imogen, its an English name"

Ugh...kill me now. Just sharing.

LOL!  ;D I love the name Imogen. It's the one we had picked if we ever had a baby girl. Imogen Cunningham is one of my favourite photographers, I think she was American.  ;)

It's one of my favourite names as well, and what I'm naming my daughter, if I ever have one.

That's my DH's favorite name for a girl, it's definitely on our shortlist.
I always thought it was an Irish name originally? Could be wrong.

According to Wikipedia, its origin is a typo.  :P

But, yes, it's a lovely name. No children here, but it's on the long list in case we ever have a girl cat in need of a name.

Lol, I had never heard of it until I went to England. I could imagine my mother saying the same thing.

The name has grown on me; and I love Imogen Heap. :)

LOL  I get that with my daughter, but we do it ourself because of the baffled looks after we say her name is Seren, so we usually explain that it is Welsh and means star.  I think it's funny she has to explain Imogen though.  I'd heard that name before, but just considered it a lovely old-fashioned style name.

I could definitely imagine my mother saying some sort of similar qualifier.

In any case, it's a gorgeous name!

The daughter of a friend of mine has Imogen as her middle name.  It's so pretty!

Maybe have a quiet word with her and say it's not necessary unless someone asks about the name?

We will have a little Imogen joining our family in April (well, unless we change our minds at the last minute...)!

I'm bracing myself for my Southern family to automatically turn Imogen into Imogene and pronounce it as 'jean'... that seems to be the version Americans are most familiar with.
