Hiya...newbie here
« on: February 20, 2011, 02:47:01 PM »
Just wanted to say hello. I'm new to this site. I'm a UK citizen currently living in the USA(20 yrs). I'm ready to move back to UK. Welcome any advice on moving companies, job searches, rentals, etc. I basically would have to start over from scratch since I've been gone so long. :-\\\\ Where does one start? ???

Heya and welcome to the UKY website.  Lotes of great folks.

What part of the UK will you be moving back to?

I have a friend who is moving back on Wednesday (3 days from now), who is a British Citizen by birth (Scottish) and who has lived in the USA for right at 30 years.  She is ready to return home to her mom and sister, but yet very nervous about it all.

She did tell me one thing last week when chatting to her.  She said she wished she had not decided to ship furniture and other misc things over, instead she wishes she had just sold every every bit of stuff, furniture, belonging she had and just come over with her clothes and few small items in suitcases.  She had many yeard sales over the past couple of months getting ready for the move, and needless to say she is so exhausted and ready for her move back.

My friend is bringing her Maltese with her (her furbaby) and if you have any pets to bring, that is a 6 month process of doing certain things at certain things in order for the pets to fly over here.

From myselof, I would suggest that you keep a watch on Rental sites to get an idea of rentals and prices.  Be aware that the pics on most all the rental sites can be bit deceiving, so you will find once here you will likely look at many and be bit disappointed after seeing the great pics LOL.

Keep the site updated on her move, when and if you do move.  Many folks here can and will help with your questions as they have helped many on here, including myself.  It is a great site.

Nemie,thanks for the warm welcome.
I'll be moving to the Lincolnshire area to be closer to family there.
I don't have any pets to bring back with me.
I do have a lot of stuff I need to sort through and sell. I want to keep personal items such as pictures, clothing, cds, some books etc. I don't plan on bringing over any furniture or electronics. Is it cheaper to just pack everything into suitcases? I would have to pay extra baggage fees.
I've checked out the online newspapers for rentals. I probably won't be able to find something until I'm actually over there.
Good luck to your friend.
