It never existed where I grew up, if I wanted to buy some now, in London I'd probably have to get it delivered, I've never seen it in a store.
Nah, my husband (born in Essex) loves the stuff and he gets it at our local Tesco at Surrey Quays. So you can definitely get it in London.

Now Irn Bru, on the other hand...
Summer 97 - first visited friends in London
99-00 - studied at Uni of Sussex on exchange
Feb 02 - moved to London on BUNAC
Sep 02 - WP granted (IT skills shortage list)
Sep 04 - WP renewed
Sep 06 - WP renewed again (screwed by 4-5 year ILR change)
Sep 07 - ILR!
March 09 - Citizenship!
July 09 - bone marrow transplant :(
18 Sep 10 - wedding!
Mar 12 - half marathon in Paris! 1:47:12!
Oct 12 - Amsterdam FULL marathon! 3:48:23!

Vimto is not a northern thing!  We have it everywhere in Dorset.  I love it, but only the fizzy kind.

@ rachee- what is vimto?

Thats a joke right? You have been to the UK before haven't you??

I've lived in the UK/Ireland for 4.5 years and I didn't know what it was either. I had to google it.  :-\\\\

It's a Northern thing! I was born in the South and never knew of it's existence until I started going to Liverpool.

It never existed where I grew up, if I wanted to buy some now, in London I'd probably have to get it delivered, I've never seen it in a store.

I've heard of Vimto, but have no clue what it is. And I was born here!  ;D

I had to google it as well I had never heard of it before either an I have lived in the UK for just under 7 years.  [smiley=blank.gif]  :-\\\\

I've seen in corner shops.  Mr A loves it.

Find for newcomers: Home stuff: Costco (Get a membership in the States if possible).  Partridge's American section.

UK/European stuff: Organic fruit/veg box delivery services (I use Riverford, but you might be lucky and have a more local one).  Grocery delivery services in general. Radio 4.  Turkish Delight (I know some people hate it).  I could probably come up with a list a mile long if I had time....

My husband is addicted to Vimto! I drink it occasionally but I much prefer Strawberry Ribena.

I used to eat Funyuns and the closest thing I can find to it is Monster Munch.

I also really like Magners Cider!

British cheeeeeese!  ;D

Yeah I agree they do taste similar. Now has anyone found any crisps that taste like hot cheetos? I miss them so much!

Wotsits did have a 'Flamin' Hot' flavour at one point, but I'm not certian if they do it anymore.

Me too!  I also like the advert where they're catching the apples in the orchard.  I want that job :).

Wotsits are sooooo not Cheetos!  No one does fake cheez like the good ol' US of A!

Hi

I literally laughed when Rachee said vimto and not being able to live without it! it's true, that stuff is fantastic!!

I think most of the foods in the UK you can't get or have never heard of in the US has been done in the foody section, there's lots of examples of what's being mentioned here!

Same works the other way around and foody in the USA that isn't available here!

I've suddenly got the need for some Irn Bru !

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough !

Radio 4.

For me, 6Music. Its the reason why I bought a DAB radio for my kitchen.
Id would be so lost without it. Huey Morgan (my little slice of NY radio) and Jarvis Cocker on Sundays. Steve Lamacq & Marc Riley Mon - Fri nights helping me cook dinner. Craig Charles Soul & Funk show on saturday nights to keep me dancing...

Its the only thing close that comes to the station I used to listen to back home while growing up (its now off the air thanks to ClearChannel!) with its mix of new and old and random eclectic tracks.. Rarely theres a bad song on (at least imo)
