Hello from Pittsburgh, PA
« on: March 03, 2011, 07:07:27 PM »
Hello everyone my name is Stacy,
I am from Pittsburgh, PA, at the moment I am living outside of Bristol, England with my fiance (but I am just here on a visitor visa which is up in the beginning of April....so I am flying home in a week.) But my fiance, Matt and I are planning to get married soon. I am new to this forum, Matt got an account a couple months back...just posted to say Hello, and I think this forum is a cool idea for people in similar situations. :)

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your marriage plans. There is tons of useful info here and plenty of people willing to help if you have questions.

Whereabouts outside Bristol are you? (I grew up just outside Bristol).

Wotton-Under-Edge at the moment.....but we are planning to settle somewhere else in the future (most likely Scotland) because Matt likes it better up there, I think its a cool idea to, never been to Scotland it seems like it will be a cool new experience...and best of all once we are married I will get to be with Matt for good :)

I see, Fox Chapel is a nice neighborhood. I was in London, where you are at once, the London Underground is crazy busy compared to Pittsburgh's PAT transit system...I went by train to a concert in London a couple weeks ago (at Scala)

Well, I don't know if you can even say Pittsburgh has a public transportation system. ;) The 2 cities are completely different in every way, but I love both so much! I really miss me some Primanti bros and Pamela's pancakes right now! What concert did you go to?

Bright Eyes....I LOVE indie rock (I saw Arcade Fire in Cardiff, Wales since I have been here, and I am seeing The Decemberists in Bristol in about a week), I miss lots of US foods, pramanti bros is great, I used to eat at the one in market square for lunch when I worked at the Starbucks there a couple years back.

Yeah, it's really close - just off the A38 a mile or two from he M5 junction. It's a pretty big town - about 15,000 people, I think - but you have to leave the main road to get to it.

The places around here I usually go to are the tescos and sainsburys (I think in Dursley) and the Wotton fish and chips shop, which has amazing fish, still gettin used to England so I may or may not been there (in Thornbury)

Yeah, Dursley is quite close to you, so that makes sense. Thornbury has a Tesco and an Aldi but no Sainsburys (I usually have to go into Bristol to go to Sainsburys).

I'm not one to talk though since I've only been to Wotton once since 1998 and I haven't been to Dursley since about 1994! (I have spent much of the last 10 years living elsewhere though)

As far as grocery shopping....if we want to get a big order, we go into Bristol to ASDA, plus it is a bit cheaper and has way more selection than tesco and sainsbury's
