I thought you only needed to do the "mid-stream" if they were checking for cystitis (bacteria)?

Oh could be.  :)  But I was just always told it was good practice to do so. 


On a side note, diabetes mellitus is roughly translated to sweet urine.  Diabetes comes from the greek word for "siphon" (meaning a lot of urine was made) and "mellitus" comes from the latin word "mel" meaning "honey".  Diabetes has been around for centuries and before there was lab testing, apprentice physicians and other lower medical folks used to have to taste the urine of suspected cases of diabetes to see if it were sweet.

wow that is a job I would never want to EVER do or have mt DH do....man how things have changed
