Work standard (US) air quality?
« on: March 09, 2011, 03:12:37 PM »
Ok oh smart ones of UKY

The office had a fire in the telecom room - the whole office stinks bad.

Employees are getting major headaches, bloody noses when they wake up and they STINK (all so I am told)

The owner doesnt seem to acknowledge any of this as she said she would rather pay a $20 hr employee to clean walls then the 40K a professional wanted.

Is there a law? Is there something I can help do?

I have emailed and spoken to her to tell her people's concerns and she said
I spent 24 hours right after it happened and I am fine.

Yet these guys are there sitting still for 8-12 hours and she was running around I am sure but hell I feel helpless.

Definitely report her to someone.  I worked in a shop for a while, and the owner was never there and never cared about the state of the place.  At some point, some large animal died in the basement walls and stunk the place up.  He refused to pay to get it removed, and the store became infested with flies in addition to the stink.  I had a friend call the local Health Department as a concerned customer.  He definitely took care of it after that.  ;)

Nose had a good suggestion - what about the Texas Dept of Health?  There's an Air Quality Section there:

Or there might be something lower down on the county or municipal level?

Yes they deal with government not private businesses.

Super annoying if you ask me.  I have told everyone to stay home - if they can work from home fine.  Some cant they dont have internet or the VPN and they will just lose $
