FYI, if you want a gun that bad, get a low energy airgun for which no license is required. My dad has had one for years.

Thepunisher, if you didn't want a debate, then why would you post about such an incendiary and divisive topic?  Did you think that because we are American that we would all agree with you?  Just curious as to your motives.

As I vented to my husband he pointed out they don't have a right to free speech in the UK

There is a right to free expression in the Human Rights Act. It was part of the incorporation of the European Convention in 1998.

Freedom of Expression, but it doesn't extend to all things the way it does in the US, which some people agree with and others don't.

Clearly, freedom of expression doesn't extend to burning a poppy.

For example, its laws recognise the crimes of incitement to racial hatred and incitement to religious hatred. UK laws on defamation are also considered among the strictest in the Western world, imposing a high burden of proof on the defendant.

I guess the question is, who gets to decide what is racial/religious hatred?

Aside from the woman arrested for writing poetry that she published on the internet.

I've tidied this thread up a bit, removing the name calling.  Let's stick to the topic, please.

Well, this thread is a giant WTF.  ???

Gun control is a good thing. Don't like gun control? Then perhaps you're better suited to a country which doesn't have it.

Gun crime in the US is massively more widespread per capita than in the UK or any European country. Let's keep it that way.

Isn't this the sort of thing that more properly belongs in Pettifog?  You know, where newbies can't post?  I thought the whole point of that set-up was to cut down on idiot trolls.

Didn't it start in pettifog, which would mean the person had enough posts?  Or am I losing it? I thought it had been moved.

It was moved, it was moved back though as there wasn't a mod around that day to watch it and I was around - after all gun control is a pretty emotive subject!

With that said, if you (the collective 'you', not you woadgrll  :) ) think someone is a troll, then 'don't feed them' - otherwise, please feel free to discuss civilly and courteously :)

I still don't understand how a user who is a troll and obvious dupe account can come on here and say that it's "good" that a trespassing teenager was shot and killed and then regular members get reprimanded for name calling.

Because he wasn't name calling anyone else.  He's entitled to his opinion, we don't have to agree with that.  But we must be nice to each other when disagreeing.

I am thinking this thread will go nowhere, so I am locking, as I will not be around to keep an eye on it.
