NY to CA to UK all in 18 months!
« on: March 18, 2011, 11:07:21 AM »
Hello there -

I am new to this forum, having just settled in the UK with my husband and son. Originally, I am from Western New York. My husband (who is a UKC) and I met while I was on vacation in London three years ago, we fell in love and did the transatlantic thing for about a year. Naturally, we were both going mental - so he relocated to San Diego, CA for school and I transferred offices within my company to join him. We married and our son was born late last year - and we decided it would be better to raise him in the UK near his family rather than out in the Wild West.

So I've been here in Hertfordshire about a week now and decided it would be useful to join up at this site. We had consulted UKYankee during our initial application process - and I have to say it was so easy when compared to the US Immigration process that my husband went through to get his Green Card (originally we were going to settle in the US).

Anyways, nice to meet y'all!

Welcome to UKY!

I agree with you - we moved to England to raise our family and have a better environment too. I am originally from California (lived in San Diego for a couple of years) and moved to Hampshire 2 years ago. We found the visa process very easy as well - much easier than the US Green Card process we went through for my husband (like you!).

Hope you are enjoying it thus far  :D.

Jennifer

Welcome!

SoCal to UK as well. People in London are always confused when I say I like the weather. I try to explain that it's because there actually *is* weather here. Blank looks, most times.

I've had my gripes and confusions with UK immigration, but it's nothing compared to the US, that's very clear.

Enjoy the forum!

Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone! I find England to be a lot more like where I grew up in NY (go figure) and I dig it.

We lived in San Diego for about 18 months and I loathed it. The static weather, the crazy people. It just wasn't for me.

Welcome! I went to college in Buffalo, and I kind of know what you mean!

I lived in Buffalo before I moved to California. It felt like a different world.
