nappies with elastic?
« on: March 20, 2011, 12:24:55 PM »
When we were out in the states last month my sister had gotten us some diapers from Costco. They were brilliant! Unfortunately I don't live near a Costco and don't drive (not to mention I have no idea if they have the kirkland stuff over here)

I figured out what was good about them, they had a sort of elastic bit at the top back and what can only be described as a poo pocket. In hopes of not spending a fortune trying out all of the different brands over here, does any one know a brand with elastic and / or the pocket? I know pampers, huggies, Tesco, and boots do not.

Thank you!

Not sure what you mean about a poo pocket? We are in the US and my son is in Kirkland diapers. Granted, he's in the largest size as he's both big and almost ready to potty train (please God). So perhaps the diapers for the littler ones are different? But as for the elastic, I thought all the big names had that in the back? Obviously I'm not quite understanding what you mean!

To answer your question, though, yes the UK Costco does carry Kirkland diapers.

It was a little pocket directly under the elastic and prevented er, up the back leakage. I haven't found the elastic on any other brands than kirkland and the Fred Meyer / Kroger brand.

Yes, like the AP said, Costco does carry Kirkland Nappies, but i always found that liquids leaked through the paper on those. Just my kids maybe!

OK, I just looked and there is a small strip but at least on the size 6, it's only about a 1/2 inch so not really that much of a 'catcher'! Perhaps it's bigger on the smaller size diapers? They never really did much for us as my kids need more than a pocket to prevent back explosions. They need duct tape!! :P

Yep, your kids! ;) When we moved back to the US, Kirkland were the only ones that my youngest didn't soak through!

Oh my- I thought I had the only child in the world who blasted up his back every time he poo'd .... It's every time!!!! I'd pay out the back to find diapers with a poo pocket. Maybe we should try and put our collective minds together and create the first diaper with "Poo Pocket" technology!!

In any case, I might try the Kirkland diapers, my little one is in size 3... Need to get to Costco!!!

Oh no smashley, my son is really good at poosplosions up the back. Real pita when he does 3 in one day while traveling...

Which is why I want elasticy backs on nappies, I may actually stand a chance of making it to change him before it requires a complete outfit change.

I honestly considered making my husband bring a box of kirklands home with him, but thought surely somewhere over here would make elasticy poo pocketed nappies.

See- as soon as I hear him go, I try to change him before it climbs up his back. When I lie him down though, it just ends up there anyway. I did wonder it duct tape would work? or like a baby belt?

If it's that bad and the diapers there just aren't doing it, you might want to try using a wrap made for cloth diapers/nappies. There are tons out there and a lot have elastic or are made of stretchy material like fleece. I used them up until recently with my son (over normal diapers) as he has Inflammatory Bowel Disease and they helped provide extra protection.

I still can't believe that the Huggies and Pampers don't have any elastic at all!

I Did consider putting a larger nappy on top of a smaller one to help contain when out, but never thought of using a wrap or cover from a cloth diaper.

As far as I have found, none of the big brands have it. It seems so logical to me!

If you get a good wrap for cloth diapers it's virtually impossible to have any leaks at all.

I know Pampers and Huggies have elasticy waistbands but that's just so they are stretchy and can fit a wider weight range.  I know some of the cheaper off-brands don't have that in them.  Not sure exactly what the elastic is that you're talking about though.

Yes, they are stretchy, but still have a gap at the back when on which creates a sort of poo channel. I guess a better description would be I am looking for gathered backs?
