So...back in the day I worked on an Orange Julius cart.  You can definitely use regular OJ.  If I recall correctly, a plain old classic Orange Julius was OJ + Sugar Water + the secret ingredient.  Annnnnnd the secret ingredient was a tablespoon of powdered egg whites with a bit of vanilla to make a blender-full.

 ;D

You probably have to play around with the ratios -- and the sugar is nothing short of obscene.  I *think* the sugar water ratio was just simple syrup.

For the thicker pina colada type drinks, the other secret ingredient was extra finely ground coconut and almond powders.

Powdered egg white!  How funny.  I remember at supermarkets back home you can get powdered stuff to make a blended drink frothy.  I bet it was powdered egg white and sugar.

I think I'll try it myself, minus the egg white (not good for a pregnant woman and I don't think they have the powdered stuff here unless someone knows where to get it!).  The recipe I found was OJ concentrate, milk, vanilla and sugar I think.  I'll give it a shot and report back my findings  :)
