Bittorrents are illegal most of the time as they are rips.  I am a little worried after the napster delima.  ustvnow is only online, or via a slingbox.  Please refer to my post earlier.  I used them as well, and same delima.  free cable is presently being sued for copyright infringement.
Plenty of ways of using USTV with a TV, although yes it's online as it's over the internet. https://support.ustvnow.com/forums/21442007-Watching-on-3rd-party-devices. The real problem with this is unless you pay for dvr credits, the time difference makes it difficult to watch thigs.
A slingbox is an option if you set one up at someones house in the US,  wouldn't work with ustvnow though.

I suspect this is a different freecable,  the one I use is an XBMC addon which provides just display the  video content of various network websites.  The general consensus is that since the content is freely online  it's legal. A lot of overlap with hulu anyway.  The trick is getting to work from the UK, I use www.tunlr.net for now a dns based vpn.

I managed to get Hulu working here on my iPad in England, via a US/UK VPN
Streams fine without buffering, so far..

I prefer to use VPNs as they are secure and reliable. I use ZoogTV VPN ( newcomer link: http://www.zoogtv.com [nonactive] ) to watch all my favourite US shows from UK.

I can watch all the channels from their US TV Online Guide - newcomer link: http://www.zoogtv.com/tvguide [nonactive] and also listen music on Pandora. It's fast, secure and reliable, plus it's free to try.

I have ABC, The CW, NBC, CBS and PBS on my iPad 3 while I watch Hulu and Us Netflix on my TV via HDMI cable from my laptop. Streaming quality is very good most of the time :-).

Stephen J I have Apple TV, can I change the VPN on that with the zoogtv? I keep hearing about getting a VPN but I am not sure how it works?

mrscgirl1, unfortunately ZoogTV VPN does not support Apple TV or routers yet. I understand they are working on it, but at the moment they support Windows, Android and iOS devices.

Besides it is quite tricky to setup a VPN on Apple TV, as you would need a router with VPN setup connected to Apple TV.

A few sites I've found which don't require VPNs or payment.  I tried them all this evening.  I have been trying to watch shows on CBS (mostly NCIS!), after being unable to get any proxies to work.

Project-free TV
http://www.free-tv-video-online.me/
(I read that this has been blocked by the four major ISPs in the UK as of November 2013 but it works fine for me on BT)

(I'm removing another option because only the first three episodes of any series are free, and purchasing points to watch further episodes seems to lead to credit card theft)

Also, in your Chrome browser, try Hola Unblocker, which is a free VPN service. You can get it on Android and ios too. Very useful! ;)

We've recently made our PS3 access US netflix

Kerri, I realize your post is from a year and a half ago... but if you're still around, can you detail how you got your PS3 to do this? I brought my PS3 from the US and it only sees the UK library of TV/movies. Hubs wants to watch the Walking Dead! ;D

There is definitely a way to do it. My fiancé has made my US Apple TV I brought over think it's in America so we can use Hulu and US Netflix. Meanwhile we have his PS3 also connected to use UK Netflix and iplayer.

I think it has to do with changing the DNS. I honestly don't even know what that means but it might give you a good sense of direction for using Google to find instructions.
