The wedding is officially cancelled
« on: March 30, 2011, 03:35:23 PM »
So after a denied fiance visa, and rescheduling the wedding, not once, not twice, but 3 times, the wedding is canceled.

He wants me to meet his parents first which is difficult because of visas and finances.  I understand why this is important to him, but I am so mad and hurt that he didn't bring this up sooner.

It's even worse because so many things have gone wrong lately.  I feel like I have very few positive things going on right now, and I've been EXTREMELY depressed...and now this.

He says we can get married as soon as I meet them, but for me it's just not that simple anymore.  I feel like I can't trust him to tell me how he really feels about things anymore because he waited so long to bring this up.

I feel so selfish for being mad about this.

I can't stop crying...

I'm so sorry. This must be so frustrating. Can he and his parents visit you in the US to reduce the financial strain on you? Heck, you could go to the courthouse with him and have them as witnesses. :)

His parents can't afford to fly over here either, and his dad doesn't have a passport.  In fact, his dad refuses to fly anywhere, and has never been out of the UK

I'm so devastated. I just want to burn my dress.  I keep going back and forth between being sooo freakin' mad and unbelievably depressed!

Haha! We worked it out.

We talked and I explained the logistics of waiting another year to marry after I have officially met his parents in person.  It would have meant waiting until late fall/early winter for me to meet them, since we can't another trip until then (he's coming here May 25th for 3 weeks.)

His biggest concern was his parents and how they feel about everything.  I managed to talk some sense into him, since they wouldn't be able to come for the wedding anyway, that we should just go ahead with it.

Sooooo...the WEDDING is canceled.  However, we are merely going to turn our planned honeymoon in NYC into an elopement.  This will minimize parental trauma in the sense that it will be like ripping a band-aid off really quickly.  We won't tell anyone until it's done with.  Then  I will go over to Scotland in November or December (visa willing) and visit with my new in-laws, my hubby, and the rest of the family.  He will be moving here until I finish my next degree, and then we will move back to Scotland once I have finished my schooling and can get my licensure transferred to the UK.

What snags am I in for?  Just tell me now, before I get too vested in this.
