Hey I've been to Deland!!!! :)

My family moved from Jersey to Lakeland Florida when it was still green grass and two buildings LOL.  Now its a completely different place. But yes...its not Disney and its not Miami (wish is was though...I miss those yummy Cuban pastries!).  Just like NY isn't NYC. There is soooo much beauty in NY outside of Manhattan as well.

Which brings me to a similar rant.  Why does everyone expect me to live in London??  The minute I tell people I've moved to England its "How's London?"  I wouldn't know...how's it like in a place three hours away from YOU?

Even after I tell them where I live, how far its from London and how many hours I am ahead...it doesn't sink in. They still ask how's London, they still ask me what time it is here.  And that's just family.  Seriously...how many family members do you have throughout the world that you can't remember to add 5 to whatever time it is now?  Or that you still can't remember that I don't live near London? grrrr....

I get that too. Before I moved here, I overheard a co-worker telling one of our customers I was moving to London. When I explained it was Blackburn, and roughly how far away it was, the customer asked 'Why would you move there when you could move to London.' Um... because hubby's family is here, and we figure we may as well be near my family or his?

I do get a lot of people asking me how far Indiana is from NYC, Orlando or Vegas. I even had one ask why I chose to live in Indiana. Um.. parents, gradparents, great grandparents and on back the line were all from there.

Deland is a tiny, boring town with nothing more than a movie theater, bowling alley, and a Super Walmart. Going to Walmart in Deland is pretty much the highlight of your day.

Hey! A movie theatre, bowling alley and a Walmart sounds pretty good to me! My boring small town has only ridiculously expensive ladies dress shops, real estate agents and hair/nail salons. And one Starbucks I wouldn't get caught dead in.

Even though I've lived in the US for 5 years, some of my family members STILL don't realize that the time difference means we can't speak to each other during the week.  I've told them so many times that by the time I get home from work, they will be in bed, but it doesn't seem to sink in.  Every couple of months or so, I'll get home from work and there will be a message on the answering machine saying "Just calling to see how you are.  I'll try again tomorrow."  No!  Don't try again tomorrow!  Nothing has changed, I still have a job and I still won't be in!  Grrr.
