What's on your shopping list?
« on: April 03, 2011, 02:24:26 PM »
DH and I are going to be back in the US this summer and I am already thinking of some of the things I want to bring back. Thing is it's a lot harder then I thought it would be. I've lived here for 2 years now and I really can't think of much that I Have to bring back. Don't get me wrong I do miss things from the US but not on a regular basis. I know I'll find all sorts of things when I get there but what do you bring back with you? So far I got...

Coffee creamer (French Vanilla & pumpkin spice)
Hidden valley ranch
Stove Top
 ???

Ziplock type freezer bags-have not found a similar heavy duty quality here
Reynolds Wrap-pretty much the same reason and also 300 yards lasts forever!
Cling Film-better quality and size
Onion powder-I haven't found it here

Dw always has to bring back sweet 'n' low sweetener, or she gets people to bring it when they come, and Twizzlers.
I love Stove Top so we bring that, coffee (Wawa, or Green Mountain rainforest nut). Canned pumpkin.

Ditto on the Green Mountain coffee (although I might opt for a different variety) and the canned pumpkin.  Some of that stevia blend sweetener (if I like it.  Straight stevia tastes awful to me).  The gluten-free stuff that my MiL loves. Not food, but talc-free baby powder.

I usually get chipotle chilies in adobo sauce- I can get the chilies dried -but the adobo sauce really makes the chilies! 1 large tin ,I separate them out into freezer bags and lasts me forever

Goya black beans & rice, red beans & rice, pigeon peas and rice, I will usually mix it up on the kind I get - etc

Near east rice pilaf

And loads of 8 o'clock coffee and/or dunkins beans

That's about it from me!
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I guess I could make a list, but in reality, I don't miss anything that much that I'd want to weigh down my suitcase with it.  I'd probably just indulge in stuff while I was there and then try to forget it all until the next visit.

But, possibly Paul Newman's pretzels (used to be addicted to them!) and the giant vegan cookies my old work used to sell.

Chock Full O'Nuts coffee, Triscuits, some local brand potato chips and noodles, taco seasoning, and Lipton's onion soup (I think you can get that in the UK, but not in Ireland). Again, not food but Mr Clean Magic Erasers and Crest toothpaste.

I stock up on enchilada sauce, A1, ranch dressing, and hersheys (mini bars and cocoa powder). Plus I usually bring back a pack of corn tortillas, separate, and freeze them.
Finally living with my Husband in London after 6 1/2 years together but apart... and loving my life!

The longer I lived there, the less I brought as I'd learned to do without or make my own. Usually I'd just stock up on some treats (Cheetos, Butterfingers) or things I liked to have now and then like Kraft Mac and Cheese or Campbell's tomato and chicken noodle soups.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Food I've pretty much gotten over, I think.  I don't really miss all that much that I can't replicate here, except maybe New Jersey diners.  Can I bring one of those?!  :D

I think I might bring back a bag of Cherry Twizzler Pull n Peels, but I'd probably eat it on the plane!  :P  It's mostly non-food stuff that I would bring back, like Secret deodorant, Noxema, and Curel moisturiser.

Although, on second thought, I do tend to plan to bring back a 6-pack of some really nice craft beer, like a pumpkin ale.  Mmmm mmm mmm.

Me, too! I usually end up getting a ton of blueberry bagels for the freezer, but apart from that, just the odd box of Cinnamon Life or Kashi Good Friends cereal, and maybe some non-HFCS apple butter to save me making my own.

For non-food stuff I get Neosporin (cream + pain relief), Cover Girl perfect point plus eyeliner (I've never found anything else even remotely like it!), and Alleve by the bucketful.

Things I got but I also get stuff sent by lovely friends and family.
I also go overboard - I know I know as we had a whole suitcase of food stuff and new stuff but I dont care it makes me happy.

1. Advil/Alleve BIG container
2. neosporin
3. waterproof band aids
4. Ranch packets (duh)
5. Twizzlers
6. BBQ sauce - just 1 but its Stubbs and want it for the summer
7. Triscuits - hands down at least 2 boxes of these
8. fajita seasoning/Lawrys seasoning
9. Stove Top (chicken flavor) the kids like this better then UK stuffing
10. Rice a roni
11. mac and cheese
12. liquid smoke for those summer briskets
13. coffee but of course
14. small individual coffee creamers

yeah I do spoil myself and I know I wont die without the stuff but if I dont have to be without it, then I dont ;-)

I'm all about the Triscuits!  And the huge bottles of ibuprofen.  Also Neosporin and Band-Aids.  Sometimes I get the Ranch dressing mix - not because I like it especially (I don't) - but occasions inevitably arise when you want some Ranch dip for something (dinner parties) or you hear of someone who is missing it and the packets don't weigh much or take up much space.

Most everything else, I've been able to source it here, or else find a suitable substitute or alternative product.  :)

When we go back in April, I really can't think of anything I will need to bring back with me.  Like Andee, I'll indulge and enjoy but I won't bring anything back with me.  With us considering a move back to the US, even for a short time, it seems weird that I don't actually miss anything.

Hmm, so far there is nothing else I can really think of that I want to bring back as far as food goes. I'm still thinking though... ;)

As far as non food items I have a few.

Victoria's Secret Love Spell Body Spray

Physicians Formula Eye Shadow and other random make up.

Gold Bond Body Lotion.

I know I wont die without the stuff but if I dont have to be without it, then I dont ;-)

This is my attitude too!  :)
