I am one of the lucky few I guess since I say excuse me when I need to get by or I a patient just like I would be in the US.
The only part that bugged me was being rushed at the checkout - that stopped now that I primarily shop at sainsbury as their policy is not to start the next person until you are completely done - I appreciate that!

When we were in Germany they had this handy thing that after they rang all your groceries through, they slid this bar across so they could start ringing up the next person and your groceries didn't get mixed up. It was great!

I don't mind people who take their time bagging, it's the ones that stand there scrutinizing their receipt or chatting instead of bagging. If I have a cart I often through everything back into the cart and push it to the side to bag up. I'm pretty anal about how things go in bags, so I don't like to be rushed!

I immediately thought of this thread yesterday while in Sainsbury's and my 8 year old son was rammed in the hip/leg with a trolley. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I didn't see it happen as I would have majorly gone off on the offender. He didn't even get any kind of apology and he was standing there in tears. Momma bear was really having to rein it in.

And that is how it should be!  Obviously I do the same.  I do not rush.  That is how phones and keys are lost, wallets and debit cards left behind.

I once lost my debit card and the last time I had used it was when I was getting cash back at a Sainsbury's local. I must have not put my card away properly as I was rushing to put my wallet away and get out of the store.

Now I usually get cash back for weekly spending when I do my weekly grocery shop. I always take my time to make sure everything is put away properly.

I'm not going to risk losing my money, debit card or my wallet because someone behind me is in a rush.

I have seen those in the US at a few stores.  It was at a place that didn't provide bags, so I guess they were used to people taking a while.

Pathmark uses them on their oversized checkouts. Or at least used to when I worked there. We bagged, at request, but most people who used those lines preferred to bag their own

It happened to me twice.  And I almost lost my phone as well as everything was falling out of my backpack and the groceries were piling up on top of it all.

I find people annoying in any country!  They just walk around like - you know, people being people. ;) ;D

LOL! My husband and I often comment on this. We go into crowded places, anywhere, anytime and encounter what we call "The People." "The People" know no colour, race, gender, socioeconomic class. Annoying is annoying.

HA! That made me laugh! It reminds me of that scene from Muppets Take Manhattan where the restaurant guy Pete goes into his "Peoples is peoples" speech...LOL! My dad used to quote it a lot then make up his own versions (i.e. "Amber, peoples is peoples! Is pushy peoples, is running over other shoppers peoples...Peoples is peoples!!"  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

OMG, MTM was my FAVOURITE film when I was young. My mum used to have to rent it from the video store every week, and in the late 80s that wasn't cheap! I got it on DVD for Christmas last year and it's just as wonderful as I remembered!

On a lighter note, if you do your food shopping while everyone is at home waiting to watch a royal wedding, Morrisons will be blissfully empty and quiet. ;D I just got home from doing my weekly shop, and there weren't many people in there at all compared to usual. It sort of felt like going to Walmart at 3 am on a Tuesday vs going on a Friday afternoon.

Our grocery delivery just turned up VERY early.  The driver said he's never seen major roads in London so empty!

My husband and I go right after they open on Saturday. The supermarkets open at 8:30/8:00. The latest we ever get home is 10AM.
