What did you walk down the aisle to?
« on: April 18, 2011, 04:11:57 PM »
I figured out our first dance song, (Lucky by Jason Mraz) but am really undecided on the walk down the aisle song.  I don't want the traditional wedding march.  I was thinking I would walk 500 miles, but its not quite appropriate.  Or perhasps Yours Alone from Hearless?

Uh, well, this is probably a sign of my questionable personal taste but we walked down to Radiohead's "True Love Waits" and "Karmapolice" (long walk, a few people! It was TLW by the time it was my turn), put to piano by Chris O'Riley.

We walked "back" to the tune of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy theme tune. Laughter ensued.

I wanted to walk down to Eel's "Goddamn Right it's a Beautiful Day", but my grandmother would probably have fainted. As it was, the "adults" were wondering why all of the "kids" were humming along with what they thought was random piano music. Our UK friends LOVED the Hitchhiker's theme though, so much giggling and a bit of applause. :)

I walked down to an obscure instrumental song (Halcyon Beautiful Days) by a Japanese band called Mono, but we departed the aisle together to Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl".

A friend in high school used to want to walk down the aisle to the Beatle's "Here Comes The Sun", and I always thought that would be really lovely.

very nice!
We had "The String Quartet Tribute to Radiohead:Enigmatic" and the "Strung Out" Radiohead stuff playing at the beginning of our ceremony before the profession started.

Timeless classic, Moon River, because the lyrics fit us perfectly.  :)

(Also a little nod to my mother who wasn't able to be present - she & I shared a love of the film Breakfast at Tiffany's, the theme song that goes with it, and the desire to see the world.  And no one walked me down the aisle, so maybe my mother did, in a manner of speaking.)

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

We went traditional. I didn't want something trendy that in 10 years we'd be thinking, "WTF did we choose that for?!?"

For the processional, it was Pachelbel's Canon in D. For the signing of the register, it was Elgar's Chanson de Matin. And for the recessional, it was Handel's La Rejouissance from The Royal Fireworks Music.

All of those pieces make the back of my neck tingle!

I do share Mrs R's love of Moon River, though, so we had the DJ play it later on.  :)

If you like I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) check out another Proclaimers song - Let's Get Married.  That's what we used  ;D (it doesn't include the weird preacher guy on the track that's just the video)

My bridal party and I walked to Jem's cover of Coldplay's "Yellow" (there wasn't a lot of us) and my hubby and I walked together to "Maybe I'm Amazed" by the Beatles.. A nod to my hubby's Liverpool heritage.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

Thanks for this.  Never heard of the song, but listening to it now and liking it.   :)

We got married on a boat, so for my wife "walking down the aisle" became "walking across the gangplank and going up the stairs", which took place to You and Me by Lifehouse.

Our first dance was to an acoustic version of Everlong by the Foo Fighters that transitioned to a live version from their concert in Wembley Stadium.  The transition was the cue for everyone else to join us on the dance floor.   :)

I will be walking down to The Dambusters March (it's my favourite war film, which DF introduced me to) and we'll walk out together to Caledonia by Dougie Maclean. Both will be played by a string quartet.  ;D

Most of my and boyfriend's grandparents are dead, and the ones left are very hard of hearing. I'm gonna save this idea.  ;D

Same here!  :)

Our first dance together, the dj screwed up and we somehow ended up with the Celine Dion theme song from Titanic. Niiiiiiiice.  ::) (but funny 12+ years later)
