Flight booked and on my way
« on: April 22, 2011, 07:55:09 PM »
I leave in 30 days and I have to admit I am starting to get nervous! But I am also excited. It's a weird feeling knowing that the entire world around me is going to be so different.

It's time to adventure, indeed.

Hooray!  ;D I remember booking my first flight to come over (for the face to face meeting after talking online and on the phone a couple years). I sat at the computer giggling to myself, in shock because I had 'actually done it!' and it took nearly 30 minutes for it to all sink in.

Always think of it as an adventure. :) I was as nervous as I was excited, both for the first flight over for the 'face to face meeting', and for moving here after he'd moved to the States for the first five years we were married.

You will be meeting all kinds of new people, having new experiences, frustrations, joys and pains.. as with any adventure. Just remember we're all here (I'm new to the site and wish I'd found it when I first moved here) to offer support, advice and a shoulder if you need it.

How long is your visa for, Am I right that you've gotten a Canadian Youth Migrant visa? (Is that what it's called?)

Yes, you're right. It's the Youth Mobility Scheme, it gives me 2 years non-transferable and non-negotiable.

I just found a flatshare in Old Basford. Looks like I will be shacking up there for awhile! I suppose either until I find something different or if I really enjoy it, I can stay there.

Hi.  I see that you are new to the UK.  I came over here in late May 2011.  I'm in Nottinghamshire also.  Do you know if there are any other ex-pats in this area, or any get togethers?  All I can say is this is a strange, strange land.
