Summer music festivals?
« on: April 25, 2011, 10:40:15 PM »
Can anyone recommend a summer music festival I might enjoy going to with my wife and kids? I'm thinking of Larmer Tree or Camp Bestival or maybe Truck. Any others? Personal experiences please!

What sort of music do you like?

The secret garden party is fun and very family friendly, and quite eclectic.

Fun line up this year, real mix of music. There's a kids camp at secret garden which from wiki - "Djs, storytelling, theatre, comedy and art installations, and all manner of wild activities, from snail racing to Space Hopper races and a children’s disco. The Kids Camp, which grows every year, has creative workshops, a ‘doodle den’, a ‘Young Revolutionary's Parade’ with home-made costumes, a fashion show (ditto), pizza baking, and the ‘Hush Hush Hideaway’, where over-stimulated little ‘uns can listen to music, read books or watch cartoons over a soothing mug of cocoa. Special kids-only events include early-morning adventure walks and an adventure aboard a pirate ship.
If all the mayhem proves too much for you, head for the massage and healing space, dance classes, yoga sessions, saunas and hot tubs (a nanny service is provided for an extra fee). You can camp in tents, campervans or caravans, or book tipis or safari tents. The family camping area, set away from the loud music and late-night revelry, features campfire storytelling sessions."

I've always really liked Latitude - http://www.latitudefestival.co.uk/2011/
Some nice bands this year and very family friendly.

Belladrum is very family friendly.  Though it may be more than a bit far away for you!

Beautiful Days might be a good one. Its at Escot near Exeter. It was runner-up for Best Family Festival last year.

I have tickets for the family for Standon Calling (nice and small, just outside London, and a friend went last year and is going back this year, with 3-yr-old in tow.)

I also really want to go to the Just So Festival (mainly arts 'n' crafts 'n' stuff), which looks like a brilliant place to go with kids.

Just got back from Bearded Theory in Derby (It was a VERY last minute thing since my partner was going with a mate and they had bought an extra set of tickets on accident) Ticket prices were reasonable and include camping fees - £70 per adult or £180 for two adults and two children under 16 - under 5s were FREE. They also have payment plans.

Had a great time and VERY family friendly. HUGE kids area and very peaceful. Loads of arts, crafts and children orientated activities (one where theyre in an inflatable ball and can walk on water - so jealous!) Bands were eclectic but something for everyone. They allow raised fires and gas burners so you can cook on site (we're going to do that next year) and not pay a fortune eating catering.

Also if bringing kids to any gigs they should be wearing protective earmuffs due to the volume of the music

I saw a lot of kids with them on and just as many without.
