My DH is grumpy as well..."we" dont have the money to blow on a celebrity wedding according to him and a few friends.

I would agree with them. Especially while the government is planning to cut my pension.  :-\\\\

I completely stuck to my plan.
Finally living with my Husband in London after 6 1/2 years together but apart... and loving my life!

Big bash at work this morning -- in honor of RW. You'd think academics would be aware of the cutbacks, etc.
I made a point of not attending (well, I did have a dr. appointment but wouldn't have gone anyway!)

Yeah, that's what my hubby says as well! (He's got a whole set of opinions about it all...But he likes Will and Kate!) He had to work today which suited him as he had no intentions to watch anyways. I watched but mainly because I was curious. I thought it was interesting!

Quote of today "How did a horse get up on the balcony?"   ;D

I attended a lovely (drunken) garden party today.  Was really good fun!!  Far too much champagne!

Okay, I know I'm going way out on a limb here and will be in the minority, but....
I had a lot of fun celebrating the Royal Wedding yesterday!  Lots of flags around town.   A party in the park (we watched with a crowd on the big screens, with a little 4 yr old girl saying "is she a princess yet, is she, mum?"  Aww)....Dancing to Bootleg Beatles in the park, dancing with men in wedding dresses. And a street party with my nice neighbors. Making fun of the dreadful hats.  I know I am the American succumbing to the celebrity factor, but it was a slice of Britannia I will remember.

You are definitely not in the minority! Some people just like to make a point of being negative, but they couldn't spoil it for the rest of us! People all over the country celebrated and joined in and held parties and had a wonderful day! I know we did! It was a day for joy, celebration, pomp and pageantry and lived up to all our expectations! I'm generally not an overly patriotic person, but yesterday really made me proud to be British. Now I can't wait for next year's Diamond Jubilee!

Heheheh no way- I had loads of fun at the party (and its normally 'not my thing at all') and all the blokes I know, pretended to be negative, but snuck peaks or admitted to watching it -even bad ass blokes like car mechanics I know, admitted to watching it on the tvs at work and listening to it whilst they fixed cars.   Even J 'ran away' down to the caringorms, but admitted that he just drove around listening to the radio and all the coverage!  People had to be doing celebrating around somewhere, as everywhere was pretty quiet- streets were quiet, tesco's  :o, etc.

Chary, your party looks great! Love all your 'special' guests!  ;D

Awww!! I wished I would have gotten to go to a party!!  :\\\'( I really was hoping that I would be invited to something like that but there wasn't anything going on here in under-lyme that I could find (not that I would have known anyone anyways!) I just sat with my mother-in-law watching. I think my husband would have helped me find something more fun to do if he hadn't had to work.

I'm jealous! I'd like a little better (or more fun at least!) memory of yesterday! I'm glad you ladies had fun!  ;D

I thought the wedding was lovely. I was pretty much glued for three hours of footage. Everyone that I know from this area was completely negative about it. No celebration at all :/. Everyone complained about the price and that it was such a strain on tax payers. Yet majority of the people I know are either students or unemployed people. So all the complaining made me angry generally. DH and I had a great time celebrating anyways :).

Count me in as one who enjoyed it.  I have actively avoided the media hype and will continue to do so, but I had a lot of fun watching the wedding on a big screen in a local park.  The council gave everyone free flags and everyone waved them and sang God Save The Queen.  It was the sort of patriotic display that I always hated in the US, but it felt so much less aggressive here that I had no problem joining in. It was a fun day.

We didnt pay for the wedding - the Royals & the Middletons did.
We got stuck with the larger bill of paying for the security... Thats what did my head in about it.. At least try to pay SOME of it.... We all have to cut back, so do they.

Two groups of people who would be very likely to be concerned about the economy and spending cuts.

The media hype in the US was amazing.

I know someone who was very annoyed because she couldn't get the news and the weather report before going to work because the wedding was on every channel.

Hubby and I got up in the wee hours of the morning to head down to the Mall and watch the procession.  We got separated, but I had an amazing view of the carriages during the procession to Buckingham Palace.  (His view wasn't quite as good.)  I loved it.  The only drawback was not being able to watch the ceremony live, but we did get to listen to it.  We then went down towards the Palace to attempt to see the balcony but were pretty far away.  I saw a white dot and red dot which I have assured myself were them!  All in all it was a great day and definitely felt like a once in a lifetime experience (at least for me).
