I have been waiting YEARS for this to finally happen! LOL.  Die hard fans have know for years that HBO was working on it.  I can't tell you how fantastic is to see it "live".

The casting hasn't let me down yet.  Wonderful talent. And yes, it sticks to the books quite well.  What isn't conveyed are the thoughts and feelings they have though (a hard thing to do) but you really don't get the feel for the danger they are in, who they trust and don't trust, etc.  The book goes into it in much more detail.

The upside to it is that for people who haven't read the series, this series is FULL of surprises and turns.

The sex scenes in this series have been tame, in my opinion.  Compare to previous series like Rome and Spartacus, where I felt it was for truly gratuitous purposes, hidden under a banner of (but that's how they lived).  A Game of Thrones has most of those sex scenes and nudity written within the books. Notice I say most...the discussion between Littlefinger and the prostitute from Winterfell isn't in the series.

I love Tyrion and I think he has truly been brought to life.  Better than I ever imagined from the books.  There's a truly human and heartwarming side to him - more than I had thought possible.  I have Peter Dinklage to thank for that. He has been absolutely Amazing.  I love Jon Snow on principle, but Tyrion is brilliant.

Can't wait for the rest!  So happy they've been picked up for another season!

Yeah, I wonder where they're going with her. She was only mentioned in passing in the book and here she's got a bit part.

I finished the book a couple of days ago and I was amazed at how the show was really following the book almost perfectly, so far at least.  We've got the latest episode recorded so I'm hoping to watch it tonight!

Tyrion really is great and Dany is up there for me as well, at least for the moment.  I'm hoping to get my hands on the second book soon.  He really just leaves you hanging, doesn't he?  :P

Oh boy does he ever. It kills me how something JUST happens and then he switches the POV character.  Such a tease.

I'm about halfway through the second book now. It seems to be going a bit slower now but there are a lot more characters he's introducing, so it's probably for the best.

Wait until you get to the end of book three....

I literally slammed the book down and was bouncing around my bedroom screaming (well at that point it was also the fact that book 4 hadn't been released yet). :)

I read an interview recently with one of the writers and they said they had to change some scenes/use some characters in order that the characters have an audience when voicing their thoughts.  It was one way to get around how they are going to let the show audience know what the character is thinking and what their motivations are.  I think that's why they included the Littlefinger scene.

Ah, that makes sense. So often you miss out understanding so much of the film when the books are so internal. (ie Atonement)

The one thing I can't get past is Aiden Gillen.  I just keep seeing him as Carcetti from The Wire in fancy dress.  :P  :D

LOL! So agree with this!  ;D

I've only been watching the show, I didn't even really know it was based on a series of books.  :o Now I may have to get them!

Several episodes in and we still can't get past it.  :P At the end of last week's episode BF even yelled out "Carcetti, you sneaky b*gger!".  ;D

Also, I managed to order the 2nd book last night since it's only £4.49.   ;) I'll have to hurry through my library book so I can read it straight away!

Mr A brought me the first book from the Uni library.  Putting my other books on hold so I can plough it.  :D

I left my SoFaI books behind when I moved here (book 3 was autographed!) so I bought them as a bundle for my kindle. I'm only a couple of chapters in, but I'm deliberately trying to take it slowly so I don't get to the end of book 4 while I have wedding guests and can't pick up 5 when it comes out.

I remember having a similar reaction. I also almost threw up twice, reading it.

I have several episodes of this show on my Sky+ box to watch I just cant get myself to watch any of it though. Dh asked me why I still have it on my box if I'm not going to watch it?  ???  I said I had good intentions of watching it but I have had other shows I enjoyed more on but now most of them are almost finished I might just start watching it soon hopefully.  :-\\\\

Probably best to watch the others first because once you start watching, you won't stop!
