Couch to....
« on: May 17, 2011, 05:21:36 PM »
Ok it seems a few of us are doing a couch to (insert length here).

Where are you at?
Which one are you doing?

Whats the best part?
Worst part?

As PL stated elsewhere we can cheer each other on.

I am doing Couch to 5K (gotta start somewhere)
I am on week 3 day 3 (I redid it once)
Best part - I am outside in shorts and MOVING!
Worst part - shin splints

Also I get hungry the day I run so I have to be careful with the intake ;-)

I've started C25K three times.  Each time, I made it to Week One, Day One.  LOL!  I got sick the first week, it rained the entire second week (after the first day) and last week I ended up painting for several days and didn't want to do any extra exercise out of fear of dying.

Anywho...I am started it (again...FFS!) this week and hoping to get through Week One successfully.  Even if I have to wait until the kids go to bed and run in the dark, cold, wet rain...I will get this!

I thought I was out of shape but I have to say that the 3 times I actually did complete this, I felt fine.  I wasn't out of breath and my legs never hurt.  I was even "pushing" myself during the jogs to a certain extend (I definitely wasn't running but I also wasn't just walking fast...I was *actually* at a jogging pace).

C25K - Week 3 Day 3

Best: Feeling like I'm building up endurance already
Worst: Doing weights at the same time, so I don't go running 3x/week and my progress is slow. Also, when my dog comes along, he's a klutz. ;) (And totally doesn't get why we're suddenly going really fast on our walk!)

What do you listen to when you do it?

I downloaded an audio book and have been listening to that and since I get all OCD about reading it helps!

I just need more!

I don't have any audiobooks (and don't know that that'd work so well for me because I think I'd miss out on words), so I just listen to upbeat music. I might try a podcast one day, though, since that's about the same timeframe as the run.

I don't do the "running" thing- Frankly I'm only going to run if something big and scary is chasing me! :D I just wanted to say I think you guys are amazing attempting this- you are bigger people than I am ( I didn't mean that physically btw... in fact if your running and I'm sure the exact opposite will be true!)

I do work out though- and I tend to listen to either dance music or hard rock... The Up Tempo really keeps me going and if I'm enjoying what I'm listening to I tend to stay motivated. In fact- I started going to the gym just so I could get a chance of listening to my own music for an hour! (hubby is a radio hog- there is only so much Lionel Ritchie a girl can take.)
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

Yeah, I would hardly say I'm becoming a "runner". Shuffler, perhaps. ;) Though I do try to "sprint" for one of the shorter runs (or the last minute of a run), since that (in theory) will make my pace faster over time.

I have had to stop for a week or so since my shins are killing me.

I did buy Your Shape for the Wii - it has a web cam and it scans your body and corrects your movements by telling you and you can see it.

Its kicking my butt BUT it is not a happy thing to see me giggling around on TV - talk about motivation

I started jogging/shuffling/looking totally silly a little over 2 months ago.  While I'm not sure how far I go, I have noticed that my time jogging has increased and that I'm not walking nearly as much.
When I'm unable to jog (for example if the girls are home from school) I will do a cardio program using 'My Fitness Coach' on the wii, or do the freestyle jogging on wii fit plus.
I always thought I would not be able to jog-I don't have a joggers body, I've never enjoyed it....but finding an excellent sports bra and making myself do it at first has proved that I was wrong.
In addition to increasing my activity I'm really watching my portions-as a result I've lost a stone and am hoping to lose about 20 more pounds.

I'm not a runner either the amount of times over the past few years I have tried running at the gym on the treadmill I have hurt my left calf at least 5 or 6 times so I think its safe to say I wasn't meant to be a runner. ::)  :P so when I'm able to do cardio again I think I will just stick with a fast pace high incline walk instead of running on the treadmill. ;) :)  I do like the spin bike except the seat could be a bit more comfortable :P I also like the Cross trainer & the Amt machine but man you definitely know when you have been on that thing I'm winded when I get off it. I have the Biggest Loser on the Wii I do enjoy it & I like Wii Fit Plus exercises as well. :)

I can run outside, but I can't run on a treadmill at all. I think I vary my rate too much and then I pull a muscle.  :)

Did Week 3 Day 2 on Sunday up in Derby. It was really nice to run out in the countryside and not worry about traffic/getting lost/etc. :) Meant to run yesterday as well, but the weather was crap.

Rock on E!
I am back on week 3 as well - holding steady there...I find going our in the paths aka nature my shins are happier then running on side walks...so I am working that angle.

Yeah, part of my regular run includes a loop around a park - it's definitely much nicer running on dirt/grass than asphalt.
