Renting Cars in EU with US License
« on: May 20, 2011, 12:08:37 PM »
Hi!

I am looking for some advice on renting cars in the EU. DH and I are thinking about flying to Spain and doing a road trip holiday from Barcelona to Rome.

A few of the sites I looked up had mostly manual cars. I haven't driven a manual in 10 years, so would prefer to drive automatic, but one site that had them was charging 3x the price of a manual (must know Americans will pay it  ;))!

Also some of the sites did not take US licenses.

Are there any good companies for Americans living in the UK renting cars in the EU?

Thanks!

We rented a car in Spain back in 2006, using my US license back then.  It was from this place:

http://www.mondialautos.com/

I think it was a manual that we rented, but it's been so long I really can't remember.  We rented the car for a week but it was only for inside Spain.

DH found more favourable rental rates when he went onto actual Spanish websites/companies for the hire car - which works fine if you are comfortable using the language in question.  Although Mondial appears to have an English language version of the website now - they didn't back then.

HTH - just to say that's who we used on the one trip.
