American food...anyone used this site?
« on: May 22, 2011, 01:02:11 PM »
http://www.usafoodstore.co.uk  has anybody used this site to order some american food products? Like pancake mix and such? If so is it legit, and recommended?

Haven't used this site, but I do know that Amazon.co.uk sells some American-style food products, including pancake mixes (Aunt Jemima and Bisquick for sure) I'm not sure what other brands there are. If you're unsure about using that site, maybe Amazon is a safer bet, just check out the price differences.

I mostly miss dill pickles, but can't quite justify spending over £5 for one jar. :(

Let us know if you decide to go for it or not.  Our local stores only stock one kind of Betty Crocker cake mix (Chocolate), but usafoodstore seems to have a nice collection of flavors!!

I've been buying some nice dill pickles from our local Polish shop! Do you have any in your area?

I made American-style pancakes for DW last week....and all without the aid of pancake mix!  :o

haha! I prefer to make them from scratch, too. But I love Bisquick for other purposes. Like this (which I made a lower fat version of last night):

Plus, for biscuits and pot pie. Luckily, they have been selling it at Tesco for a while now!

Syntax, I also just found this website: http://www.americansweets.co.uk/index.asp which also seems to have quite a large selection of american treats !

I haven't seen any polish shops per se, but our Tesco has a polish section that sells Dawtona brand "Ogorki luksusowe" type pickles, which are closer in taste than anything else I've found here.  Just wish they came in sandwich stackers!  :P

Syntax30 - I finally visited the store last weekend. It's a medium sized corner shop/news agents in Holland Park. There are 3 shelves full of american goodies, mostly cereals, cake mix and sweets, along with a collection of various sodas in a chiller.

The prices seem pretty typical for most American import places, so it's nice to get some of these as a special treat sometimes.

I haven't done the mail order, but the store is legit.

I just checked out that site and honestly, there isn't anything I would miss that they sell. I'm only worried about Diet Peach Tea Snapple. Is it available in the UK?

Nope, no diet snapples at all.

In fact diet still drinks VERY difficult to find in shops.

Check to see if it is one of the flavors Snapple offers in the water additive pouches. When I am on visits home I stock up on the Crystal Light/Hawaiian Punch/Snapple/Wylers etc pouches. If you take them out of the box and put them all in a gallon Ziploc or other bag to keep them together you can fit quite a few in your suitcase without lots of room being taken up. I have a sturdy zippered bag (about the same size as a galloon Ziploc) that we bought curtains in, that I use for mine. I brought about 350 or so pouches back in that last month.

I've been wanting to try that one but haven't because of the price. But if it makes a lot of drinks I may pick some up when I do the grocery shopping.
