Hmm.  Maybe.  I think it's going to be freezing up there and they are all going to want to climb a mountain.  I'm prepared to explore on my own as I refuse to climb any mountains, and also I'm bringing books.

I love it up there!  Do you know where you're going to be?  Wonder if it's anywhere near Jewlz?

Does Northumberland have mountains?  I remember some hills, but I've never seen a mountain...  ;) :)

I forget exactly where, but don't think it's near Jewlz or Mike would've said since we've been up that way before.  I saw a picture of the hostel online and it looked like a mountain behind it and I'm assuming that's going to be the plan for Saturday, but I could be wrong.

If it's pretty up there and if no-one harasses me for doing my own thing I'll be happy.

tomorrow we are headed to the comicon here in london town. FH has to do some stuff there for work and i'm tagging along.

Sunday we are going to take a peek at the open air flower market down by vauxhall (or is it southwark??) and see what trouble we can get into. i'd like to invite some people over for a BBQ, but unfortunatly our garden in back of our flats is just starting to seed. with the recent rain this might be a bad idea.... :-\\\\

Highest point in Northumberland is The Cheviot summit at 815 m (2,674 feet).  I wonder if you're staying somewhere around Wooler.  :)

It may not technically be a mountain, but it's a mountain to me.  I have not the stamina or passion these people do for such endeavors.  :)

Edited to add smiley face though I'm feeling more tired than smiley at the moment!

I don't know what qualifies as a mountain - lol!  If it's a mountain to you, then it's a mountain.  I'd probably try it, but it'd have to be at my pace - not someone else's.  I don't blame you!  :-*

Yes exactly--I like the outdoors and walking (as you know), but these people act like it's a race to the finish.  I work like that all week (for cr@p pay) so I want my weekend to be enjoyable and at my pace, darnit!  And I'm still building my iron / red blood cells, etc. up and it will be months until I get my energy back--doctor even said so.

Feeling a bit grumpy today I think.

So that's what you tell 'em if anyone gets funny with you about it.

All the same I hope you have an enjoyable time on your own terms.

Thanks!  :)

It turned out to be really nice!  We were staying in Dufton at the YHA and it was one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed at!  The surrounding area was beautiful and the weather cleared up on both Saturday and Sunday.  We did an easy walk both days (though our one friend complained that the walk wasn't hard enough, and I said, "That's why I'm on it!  You can do a hard one afterwards".

In the evening instead of going to the pub we all chipped in and made two curries, a veggie one and a non-veggie one.

On the way back Mike and I stopped at Long Meg and Her Sisters, a standing stone outside of a very large stone circle, and I was very happy!

The Appleby Horse Fair (just a few miles from Dufton) is in just a few days, so we saw loads of Romany caravans on their way there and / or parked up by the roads.

I'll be working, since in Scotland it's only the banks who get this bank holiday :P

Glad you had a good time, Andee!!!

The Appleby Horse Fair (just a few miles from Dufton) is in just a few days, so we saw loads of Romany caravans on their way there and / or parked up by the roads.

Oh yeah - we were in upper Wensleydale for May Bank Holiday last year with persephone & her husband, and the caravans were all over the place.  It was actually kind of annoying because they kept holding up traffic such that there were really long tailbacks.  :-\\\\

Well Bank Holiday Monday is a washout here - boo!  :(  We have to stay home (not walking) anyway because we're still trying to get our boiler up & running again & waiting for repair person to turn up.

Yay for getting the day off, PB!

How is everyone else's long weekend coming along?  (except for DrSuperL99 - sorry!)

We had a lovely time over at persephone's on Saturday - except I was severely hungover yesterday.  :P

I was able to get some much needed time away and traveled to Bedfordshire to spend a long weekend with friends. It's always good to get away even if I have nothing special planned.

Yes, we heard the traffic is horrendous when you're stuck behind a caravan, but luckily the fair hasn't officially started yet and our friends picked the right weekend to have their getaway!
