NHS Scotland dental question

My husband qualifies for free dental procedures under NHS Scotland.  This is based on income.  He's under the impression that if he qualifies for it, then I would as well, but as this is a form of means-based assistance, I'm concerned that this would be considered 'public funds,' which I'm not entitled to, as I'm on FLR.

I've got my first appointment coming up next week, and would have just paid the cost of the cleaning, but I broke a molar last night, and I have a feeling that, even under the NHS, that could get a little pricey.    So if I am eligible for free care, I'll take it.  I just want to make sure, since they're cracking down over NHS debt and all that.

Well, I certainly am not an expert or even playing one on TV, so take what I say with a grain of salt! 

I'm not entirely sure you are entitled to free dental treatment, I think if you were in a straightforward (i.e. not an immigrant on FLR) situation you would be:

You or your *partner receive:

•Income Support
•Pension Credit-Guarantee Credit
•Income-based Job Seekers Allowance
•Tax Credit (named on a NHS Exemption Certificate)
•Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
*Your partner should have been included in your claim for these benefits

You are named on an NHS Low Income Scheme HC2 Certificate

But because he can't claim extra because of you, than I'm not sure you'd be able to be free - But it all gets a bit bizarre with the NHS, especially the dental costs

If it matters, he's not getting it because he's on any other benefits, just the NHS HC2 low income scheme.

Are you named on the HC2 form?  Sorry though,  I don't know enough about any of it, was just trying to provide some links where you may be able to get information.

Curious, how did it work out woadgrrl?

I haven't found anything out, yet.  I'm inclined to not bother about it, just in case.  But I found out that we actually do have a local CAB, so I might phone them and see what they say.

And, of course, it might be academic anyway, as my husband's just been looking at the application to renew his, and we may have too much in savings to qualify now, anyhow.  So... hooray for not being poor anymore?
