Husbands who Cook
« on: August 29, 2004, 06:25:47 PM »
I just wanted to say how wonderful my husband is!!!!!  I've been so tired and just woke up from a nap and now he's started to cook dinner!  (His oldest and dearest friend & wife are coming for dinner to say goodbye to us - see repat board).

It just got me thinking how lucky I am.  I love to cook and when DH and I first met, it was something we both enjoyed doing together.  I never thought it was unusual that he's such a good cook.

His specialties are, though by no means limited to, curry and pastries!

Anybody else with a hubby with culinary skills?

Hahaha ... surely you jest!  I only wish my husband could cook.

We take turns cooking and Frank, thankfully, is well skilled in the kitchen.

Well, my honey isn't my husband for another few months, so is it ok for me to throw in that he is a marvelous cook?! Nothing fancy, but his soups are my favorite!

I always considered myself very lucky in this matter. Frank not only cooks 5 out of 7 meals a week (we usually order pizza on Thurs....he phones it in though) but he also cooks several different meals each time as my sons all eat different foods. If it were me doing all the cooking everyone  would be eating the same but Frank doesnt mind. Hes the best! When I was pregnant he not only cooked all the meals but he did all the laundry and all the shopping. He still does most of the shopping so I dont have to pack the bags at the register and carry anything. Im very spoiled!!

What myths you all speak of!!  Husbands who cook!  That's right up there with moom landings and the world being round!

I'm quite pleased that the DF is not a cook.  I LOVE to cook, but hate to clean up after.  HE is more than willing to do the dishes and clean the kitchen for the pleasure of enjoying my great home-cooking.  And, when I don't feel like cooking, he is more than pleased to take me out for a nice meal, or better yet, a greasy take-a-way.

My husband does the major weekly shopping with me, which makes it much more enjoyable.  He also cooks a few meals here and there and always jumps in to peel veggies or wash up afterwards.  I keep telling him there's nothing sexier than  man up to his elbows in hot soapy water. :D

Well I don't have a husband but my 17 year old son (with the help of his girlfriend :P) cooked supper last night and it was really good. He did all the grocery shopping too. He made grilled chicken fettuccine alfredo and garlic bread. Then for dessert he made white chocolate chip blondies topped with vanilla ice cream and a maple walnut sauce. Fattening but yum! :P

I think his girlfriend has decided he's definitely a keeper. ;D

My DF (soon to be DH!!) can cook though I do most of it. He loves to grocery shop with me and usually helps out with chopping, etc when I'm cooking. If I'm not well or too tired to cook he'll usually fix whatever it was I had planned. Though this is inevitably as exhausting as cooking myself as the whole time he's yelling from the kitchen 'Honey, where's the [fill in the blank]?' or 'Honey, is this right/how do I do this/can you come look?' !!!! ;D
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I'm Portuguese by birth .. and both my folks where chefs .. now, anybody that has ever been to PT knows we love of food spicy and galicky :D

when I married my wife in 2002 .. she .. well, she can cook, but those american recepies are too blah :p .. so I had two choices, eat it or cook it myself.

Since then, I do 90% of all cooking in our house :)

I think you might be married to my husbands clone!  :)

Men seem to enjoy chopping things to bits with very big knives....even small things like garlic.  Why is that?!

I like doing most, if not all of the cooking.  He is able to cook...even did some formal chef-y training at one point....but the control freak in me is just kinda funny about these things.  Besides, I find cooking the evening meal quite relaxing and theaputic.  After spending all day hanging out in meetings and answering emails at work, the act of creating something is very satisfying.
