What to wear to an outdoor weekend wedding
« on: June 05, 2011, 12:30:31 PM »
We are going to a weekend wedding in August at a national park/campsite in the Yorkshire dales. We will be there from Friday to Monday, with the wedding ceremony on Saturday.

People will be staying in tents, camper vans or in a bunkhouse.

The wedding will be outside.

I imagine there will be communal showers and not much in the way of space for doing hair or makeup.

I also don't know what the ground will be like - if it will be feasible to wear heels.

I imagine people will be pretty dirty and grungy from sleeping in tents - I can't really associate it with women in formal dresses.

Has anyone ever been to a wedding like this? What do people wear?

I'm an over-packer, so I'd probably bring two options and then make my choice once I see how the land lies!

Bring what you'd normally wear to a wedding, including heels if that's what you'd usually do. Then bring something like a maxi dress with pretty flats and a pashmina or cardigan to wrap up in case it's chilly. One of those options is bound to be appropriate!

I'd go for this option if it is the kind of place that people will be sleeping in tents.  I doubt they are expecting heels.  Can you ask the couple?

I noticed that on the invite they say that they encourage guests to dress fashionably and extravagantly. Since they are not providing a full meal, have asked guests to bring their own food and drink, want guests to bring their own chairs and have asked for money for a honeymoon as  a gift, I'm not going to go overboard spending money on clothes.

Wow, that sounds a little tacky...I definitely wouldn't spend a lot of money on an outfit if you're expected to basically provide for their party.
