Instead of going the Hotel/Motel route, which is really expensive to be there for a month, we thought of renting a small, furnished cheap apartment or studio for a month.

Do you guys have a good resourse/website for short term rentals?

I am looking this up myself and I am only coming across very expensive apartments for short term rental with the websites I amgoing to.

If you have any website suggestions, that would be great!

If you're willing to go with a room in a shared apartment, it shouldn't be too hard to find one on Craigslist for a month. Between students leaving for the summer, interns coming in, etc, the market in the city for summer sublets is pretty active. You could probably get a decent room in a decent area for about $1k. If you want your own studio or one-bedroom, it will be more difficult to find (although not absolutely impossible) and more expensive (I'm guessing at least twice as much for a studio). I would just search the sublets/temporary area of Craigslist.

This came up as the first search result:

I've both rented a summer sublet as well as rented out a room for summers, as someone already on the lease. It's completely normal in the city and a great affordable option. There are lots of parts of Brooklyn and Queens that are great and safe and easily accessible to everything you could want and affordable. I've even rented to people sight unseen and it worked out. Just ask for lots of information and pictures and ask to sign a sublet lease.

I have no idea what your budget is but http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/sub/2433291323.html is in an amazing neighborhood and really isn't too expensive.

For the same price, http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/sub/2433032516.html is downtown, but much smaller.

I have friends who used www.homeaway.com  for similar rentals before and recommend it highly.

We have friends who swear by AirBnB, and they should have some long term options.

I have two weekends left here in the UK before we go to New York to get married.  So the accommodation is now getting very important to sort out!!

My old landlord quoted me $1,650 for n apartment for the month of June because he is taking a $500 broker fee!

My UK BF says he is not used to these 'hidden' broker fees and is used to UK realtors quoting the total price package in one go and that's it, so he is not happy with my previous landlord's offer.

Our budget is small. Close to $1,000 and the most he wants to go is $1,200 on a month basis.

I am looking on the websites you guys suggested now, but it's difficult to find anything in this price range since we need it furnighed and Wi-fi is important.

He was telling me yesterday we should ditch the short term apartment rental and go to the Ramada Inn  by Newark Airport which is inexpensive a night in that town.

If you guys have other suggestion that fir our budget, please tell me!!

Thanks you guys for always helping me out!

To get to the city from a Newark airport hotel, you'll have to take the hotel shuttle to the airport, airtain to NJ transit and then the train into the city. It's a huge hassle and not cheap.

If the apartment is by owner, he really shouldn't be adding a broker's fee. Broker's fees are bad enough when charged by a broker! I think craigslist (and probably a shared apartment) really is the way to go...

Have you looked over couchsurfing?

http://www.couchsurfing.org/index.html  Might not be what you're looking for, but there's also more out there.

Have you considered a holiday swap?

We put some of our UK friends up in an apartment in Hoboken that I found on VRBO:

Easy to get to Manhattan and much cheaper than NYC.
