Nearly Last Minute Mailing
« on: June 13, 2011, 08:16:39 AM »
I know I mail my tax paperwork to Austin. I'm just wondering if it just has to be postmarked by the 15th of June, or does it have to arrive no later than the 15th of June?

I'll take the 'silence' as a yes, it's okay, especially since I found this on the embassy site, "If you need more time, you can request an extension until October 17th.  Use Form 4868 and make sure it is posted by June 15th to receive this extension".

I take that as a sign that a postmark by the 15th is good to go. What's good for the extension would certainly be good for the tax forms.

 ;)

If you are in any doubt about your return arriving in time, why not just request an extension electronically? You can do this online through TurboTax or any other tax software. It doesn't cost anything, so it's really a no-brainer for any late filers among us!
