I forgot to do my taxes!!!!

I've been here for 8 years and have always submitted my taxes on time, even when my daughter was only a couple of months old.  I don't know why but I completely forgot this year.    Can I still do them?  Will I be dragged off and put in jail?

I'm going to try and do them tonight and hopefully submit them asap.

As long as you don't actually owe any taxes, there are no late penalties. My old roommate filed 3 years of back taxes at once one year because she hadn't done them and she was living in the US! She got a big fat refund check and no penalties, since she didn't owe anything.

If you are delinquent with tax returns and FBARS you can use the OVDI and pay the reduced 5% penalty if you file by 31 August.  If it is only 1 year, you may wish to file quietly or under voluntary disclosure outside of the OVDI.
