Hi Dunroving,
Thanks for that update and review!
Looking through the MoneyDance site and support forum, there does seem to be 'issues' with tracking UK specific aspects such as stocks/share price updates for those with Investment accounts etc. Quite a lot of threads about this aspect! Also, it seems it's more USA centric when it comes to connecting to banks for auto download and import of transaction data.
I'll take a better look at Moneydance soon, but for now, it doesn't seem as 'versatile' as Quicken, for instance, for those who run small/home Businesses, there doesn't appear to be any functionality for that. One area where a lot of focus is often the case with users is Report generation and customisation, Quicken was absolutely awesome with this aspect and very very powerful.
In the UK, Quicken was withdrawn in the UK in 2005 and due to lack of attracting new users. Microsoft followed a year later with it's 'Money' program and again, down to not enough new users to keep it viable. Since then, there's not been any Excellent, just as powerful and versatile Personal and Small Business Tracking software title. The ones that are around, like Moneydance aren't as versatile or capable in comparison. I'm sure many people only want to track what Moneydance offers, which is fine but from direct experience, many of those same users often have changes in their lives and new/different opportunities/aspects arise and Quicken could provide the functionality needed to continue tracking those specific financial changes/updates.
Lastly, there is an 'unofficial workaround' to get UK Quicken 2004 R2 to work in Windows operating systems that came out after Quicken was withdrawn from the UK market - Windows Vista/7/8/10 respectively. Many users have found the workaround works. There's a small percentage of users who find it won't work on their specific Windows 10 laptop/desktop and for which I recommend that users install/run/use the software on a dedicated Windows XP laptop/desktop.
Cheers, Dennis! West London & Slough UK!
