Quick opinions needed on KLM!
« on: July 05, 2011, 05:34:01 PM »
Hey everyone,

I'm looking to book my ticket to the states for Thanksgiving and found a really good deal on a flight that is with KLM. Any opinions? Up until this point, I've only flown with British Airways but they want way too much for the flight.

Quick opinions needed as I'm looking to book the ticket in just a little bit.

Thanks in advance!

They're fine, got a bad record at losing baggage though supposedly.

DH used to fly them all the time and liked them. They're now linked with Air France, I believe.
Is this one of those deals where you have to fly via Schiphol? Always seemed crazy that you had to go east before you could go west but it was cheaper and more direct in the long run.

Thanks for the quick help! I decided not to go with the flight because it would require an 8-9 hour layover in Atlanta which I didn't realize until I went to book it. For £10 more I went with another airline where all layovers will be less than 3 hours. But now I'm really curious to give KLM a try in the future!

American Thanksgiving, here I come! :)

I love KLM as well. Our flight was cancelled due to weather issues, and they put us up in an amazing hotel, paid for our food, and was the only company that was actually flying the next day.  We heard stories of other airlines making people stay in the airport overnight for several days.. YIKES!!! Plus the food is good, (for airline food) we got free wine with our dinner, and they have been great when we had the little ones with us.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

I've flown them, the food was good, but I've often had to sit in the middle of the middle with them.

KLM often code shares with other airlines (Delta/AirFrance) to transport customers to the states. I've flew them many times before both direct to London from the US and connecting through amsterdam. The reason you fly the other direction, is to best give the larger plane a full load of passengers as fuel is at a peak premium.

I typically find better R/T fares if I buy direct from KLM rather than it's code shares.

Industry wide Tuesdays are the best days to look for airfare as it seems to be the current flash sale day for the industry. Adding a connection to my non stop has saved me a few hundred dollars before. Also, see if they have a free milage program you can sign up for. International trips are spendy but they rack up the miles.

I'm trying to get back to the states this fall and so far september has dropped to around 450 pounds round trip to the midwest. not bad, but hoping for a few other drops.

I just flew back to the UK after a fortnight in the USA last week on KLM.  They were fantastic (as they were last time we flew-my choices are limited into Minneapolis direct!) On both flights, Delta cocked up our infant ticket and KLM were able to sort it out.  The airline attendants were fantastic with my young son and were constantly coming over to make sure we were all right and he had plenty to eat/drink, etc. (he was in my lap, so not a very expensive ticket!) We flew from Norwich-Chicago via Amsterdam-which is a great place for a layover.

Didn't KLM buy out British Midland I., which was a good airline.

After some research I found out it was Lufthansa. Sorry. me bad.
