Torchwood: Miracle Day
« on: July 14, 2011, 10:10:24 PM »
Anyone else watching it??  It's released a week in advance in the states, but it's now on BBC One (Thursdays 9pm GMT).

It's supposed to have ten episodes to it.

Personally, I'm excited but apprehensive of this new series.  It's going to be completely different instead of the sense of familiarity that was there for the first three series.

Any thoughts?

I saw it. It is currently on STARZ here in the US.  I will have a better feel for it once I view the second episode.  The first episode was establishing the destruction of Torchwood and introducing new characters.

Agreed.  It seemed to end on quite an agressive note, which leaves me feeling a bit off balance and slightly apprehensive instead of eagerly anticipating the next episode (if that made much sense).

Understood.  I saw the previews for the new episode, but I'm waiting until I view the episode in it's entirety to see if I have a better feel for it.  I'll post about it after the new episode airs tomorrow

DH and I watched the episode off the DVR. I thought it was decent and acceptable. The main appeals (for me anyway) were Mekhi Phifer and John Barrowman, and the Welsh actors, because I love their accents. The story was a tiny bit meh, but, still intriguing enough to watch it with DH on the weekends. Bill Pullman's character was a super creep-o, though! I'll keep watching. What do you think?

I wasn't feeling the love for this one so far & I thought the initial episode was a bit silly in places - DH didn't agree.  It seems too Americanised - lol!  We'll see how it progresses, I guess!  :)

I couldn't help but think how much shooting and explosions going on after they'd already established the fact that nobody was going to die.   :P  Not that I don't mind the shooting and explosions, but it just seemed a bit overdone and emphasized over plot progression.  Maybe, it's just me.

Exactly!  LOL.  Well, the funding is all coming from the states now... So, we'll just have to tough it out and see how it goes.  Fingers crossed it picks up and gets better.

Oh yeah - that plus what about that helicopter they shot down at the end?  Why weren't those people crawling out of there alive (in some fashion)?  While the rest of them were all yahoo-ing & escaping?  It was all kinda puzzling.

I think the helicopter was one of the governments' (US? UK? Don't know) secret agencies trying to kill them so that they wouldn't spread the word about Torchwood being behind the whole Miracle Day thing. I think they were cheering because they were happy that the whole Miracle Day thing was wearing off, and people were able to die. Weird, but, makes sense as well. The whole over population thing the Welsh lady and her cop friend were talking about in the hospital before her husband came in and yelled at her.

But I don't think the Miracle Day thing was wearing off.  Captain Jack is the only one having problems, whereas before he was the only one who couldn't die & his body would instantly repair itself.  People still aren't dying - that being the premise of the whole series from the long preview that followed.  I think they just didn't linger the scene to see anyone crawl out of the helicopter, burnt but alive, but I still found that part kind of odd.

And I think aliens are behind the Miracle Day thing - why Torchwood was implicated is a mystery, IMO (other than to slot it into the storyline so that Torchwood comes back to fight the aliens).  :P

Yeah....I see now that I totally thought I understood it all. I obviously didn't. Reminds me of Fast Forward that way. Hmmm....don't know what'll happen on the next one as DH stopped it before the teaser came up and deleted it. He thinks it ruins it. So, we'll see!

Well, someone's been tipped off about what was going to happen and / or was checking the status of Torchwood when it all kicked off.  Why else would whoever it is be making an attempt to "kill" Gwen instead of trying to recruit her back to help with the Miracle Day?  Then there's got to be someone out for Captain Jack, why else go through all this rouse just to try and kill the unkillable man?  He's got quite a history with Torchwood (over 100 years), so he's pissed off quite a few aliens by now.   ;)  It still aught to be interesting to see how it all plays out though!

I enjoyed it sort of - still waiting to see what happens but my British in-laws Dr Who and torchwood fanatics were really upset by the changes and even refused to continue watching it with me, they feel its not torchwood anymore.

Ok so the show is coming together and I enjoyed the second episode more than I did the first.  The torchwood team seems to be coming together again (or so it would seem for the upcoming third episode).

Glad to hear it.  Looking forward to seeing it here tomorrow night.   :)
