a locker in a bus or train station?

In alot of movies you see that take place in New York, there is often a locker at the bus or train station where the good or bad guy stashes/picks up the money or gun or whatever...

Do these public pay lockers exist in Britain?

How common are they, how much do they cost?

Can I assume that at the end of my train ride, I can rent a locker at the station and keep my stuff in there?

please tell me it's not more than 2 pounds a day! (probably more like 5 pounds a day)

They used to exist, but the habit of the Irish Republican Army of leaving bombs in them lead to their disappearance (and waste bins in public places disappeared at around the same time). A few left luggage facilities have returned - for example, there's one at Gatwick just as you come out of arrivals in South terminal.  A few waste bins are coming back too ... found one at Cribb's Causway in Bristol recently where previously they had all been removed.  But - unless anyone give your specifics about a particular station or place I would advise you not to assume that they're there, in service and not all in use.

I was afraid of that whole security thing. 

I know MarsBar & Big Ridge (Sarah & Martin) used one recently - I think it was at Euston or Kings Cross station but I don't know how much it cost. I am pretty sure Paddington Station still has a left luggage place too.

Yes I would say so, although I've never used one myself.

Yes, it's called "left luggage". I'm afraid that in the post-privatization days, it might cost more than what you're thinking, but I can't be sure. The links below are netowrk rail for Euston (but you can use it for other stations) to find out if they have a left luggage facility.

As Jim E. says, lockers and trash bins are very hard to find thanks to the IRA.

Jim - I'm slightly concerned that your Bath page might be out of date - it's an obscure reference when most other descriptions I find don't mention left luggage, and the source text of the page looks like it may have been converted across from an old non-web document. The phone number for the bus station there is 01225 464446 (I hope *that* is up to date) if you want to check with them.  I'm also seeing what I can find out "on the ground" about the railway station - I'll follow up if I get anything useful

First Great Western (who operate Bath Railway Station) tell me:

"I regret that this particular station does not  have  this facility due to security precautions and I am sorry for anyinconvenience this may cause.

Unfortunately we do not hold any information regarding any such facility at the local bus station, however, First Somerset and Avon who operate in this area  should  have  more details about this matter. There contact telephone number is 0845 606 44 46 should you wish to contact them."

I suggest you drop off your luggage where you're going to be staying when you arrive in Bath, before you start exploring.  I'm sure they'll accept it even if you're not booked in until much later in the day and your place isn't ready.

What about leaving it at a hotel?  You can usually leave luggage with the concierge for a pound or 2.  I've done that in London.
