Where to find a Certified Public Accountant in London?
« on: July 21, 2011, 10:50:45 PM »
Hi all, this is a nice little site :)

My American wife has lived here in the UK for over two years, and not filed any tax returns. She hasn't worked, but does have $1K a month coming in from the sale of her house (it's a sort of rent to buy thing).

Basically we need to sort her tax returns out because we are heading back the states, and our visa paperwork requires tax returns going back three years. I have a feeling her tax will not be straight forward so I'd like to get advice from a Certified Public Accountant in London, but I'm not sure where to find one?

Anyone here used one in the UK?

I just recently filled all my back taxes (from 2007) and I am from the States my husband is English. I looked for someone here, but ended up using Greenbacks and it was really easy. I just uploaded all my paperwork and it was taken care of in a day.

You should check them out.

I wrote a review about on my blog. Hope it helps

Here is a list of UK based tax preparers provided by the US Embassy:

If any US returns or FBARS are now late, your adviser should be discussing with you whether to use the current amnesty (the OVDI) that closes on 31 August 2011.

I personally had a great experience with www.taxesforexpats.com. Will definitely use them again and would recommend to others in London.

The US Embassy list remains the only list I know of that has so many dual US/UK qualified tax advisers listed who are in or around London, which was the original question on this thread. There are however perhaps roughly 40 firms in the London area today preparing US taxes, but I have never seen a complete directory yet, which I think is a shame.

I agree 100% that there are of course many great CPAs and EAs in the US who can handle US tax issues and may also be able to prepare UK returns and provide joint UK/US tax consulting advice as well. I agree entirely with nyclon that a tax preparation firm such as taxesforexpats, greenback or expatriatetaxreturns.com may suit many people much better than a more local firm, it depends of course on exactly what you are looking for.
