It was the mother's use of the term "pole dancer" that really struck me!

I probably would have never survived over here being a mother of a daughter.  Little girls in high heels and mini skirts are not something I would have tolerated.

glad I'm having a BOY!!

have you noticed all the cute babywear places have tons and tons and TONS of adorable baby girl clothes and the boys get relegated to one or two little racks of what I call "mini thug" items like denim jackets and the like? for the first time in my life I find myself wanting to shop at Gap!

Here's a tip for you, Liz.  From another mum who believes that little boys should look like little boys and not -- as you say -- little thugs.  We have found loads of Osh Kosh overalls and clothing on sale via Amazon.com.  Overalls for $10!  Yes, I did say $ and not £.  If you have relatives in the US willing to ship or ones that are visiting, I really do recommend you look at their sale items (seems to be a continuous sale).

Osh Kosh is quality and very durable, but I'd never be able to afford it over here.

Also, hubby works near a Baby Gap.  He hits their end of season sales and we buy things for Niall a year in advance.  Right now we are buying summer shirts (£2-4 a pop) for next year.

You know my husband and I was just having a conversation the other day about the selection of little boys clothes and the style and Britwife is right. There does appear to be a lot of ''thug'' styles out there and my little boy is more of a dungaree type.  ;D

Im going to have a look on Amazon now! lol

Thanks, yes I do like Osh Kosh so will check that out, I am sure Stu's parents would be happy to bring some over when they come to see their wee grandson. I was lucky enough to get an Osh Kosh parcel from a friend in Singapore just yesterday - a little pair of dungarees that actually look like children's clothes and not football hooligan's!  I did check out the sale at our local Gap but it was mainly bigger kid's clothes - still I should probably get into the habit of buying a year ahead at least.

yes getting closer ... but not close enough ... he likes it too much in there!!

Oooh, Liz, you must be so excited!! Good luck to you and Stu!

I'm sure you've seen them, but Monsoon have great little boy clothes. Expensive but good for a special outfit/day.

How are the big cheapie stores here for little boys - TK Maxx and such?
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Gymboree has REALLY cute cowboy clothes for baby boys at the moment.  Pricey, but oh so cute.   :)

And you can do really well at the Gap Sale.

I have seen the Monsoon range and it's adorable but that is one of the places I was thinking of when I said tons of girls clothes and just one or two racks for boys. But they do have good sales.

Haven't checked out TK Maxx for kids stuff yet as it is miles to our nearest one.  Here in Islington we are restricted to stupid designer baby shops like Petit Bateaux (oh please!) and above mentioned Monsoon & Gap. Our Next has a lot of kids stuff but again a bit thugish, same goes for Woolies. M&S not bad, overpriced though. Oh and our local street market does a nice line in Arsenal baby gros!! The first person to buy one of those for my baby is going to be in BIG trouble ...

We bought a pair of those denim carpenter overalls at the one year size.  Niall started wearing them from late in four months.  Granted he was a tall baby, but we rolled up the legs and criss-crossed the straps in the back and that outfit lasted nearly a year.  As a matter of fact, it was still in such good shape, we've passed it on to Phillip and Marlespo.
