Hi
I'm Indian as well and going a little deeper - there's many many Indian police officers, bus drivers, Janitors, retail shop staff etc etc here in the UK. What you'll 'tend' to find is that they'll be in the main concentration areas of the country where many do indeed reside. Further out and you'll perhaps not see them in these sectors of work/jobs.
Indians in the US are more in number than the UK, they're just spread out over a much wider area and I'd 'guess' that they're mainly on either coast - much as the rest of the US population spread, so I'd guess there's actually quite a similar if not more Indians doing the above mentioned jobs.
I'll agree though, that in the media and in the larger populous cities of the US, you will see a very high number of professional level Indians too.
Going to the higher level of this topic, I've been visiting the USA to see the vastly super extended Indian family since around 1987 and I've not really noticed 'more' interracial couples in one or the other country. I guess I'm a little different from the 'usual' Indian upbringing in that i've seen mixed marriages in friends of the family and later whilst growing up, actually within our family - so I don't really bat an eyelid - whereas other Indian families pop their veins and the mere mention of it !
I will say one thing though, slightly controversial, but I have mentioned it before, but the UK does 'indeed' have a deep set Racist undertone from a significant proportion of the British white indigenous population - not 'all' of course, but a larger percentage than you may think...
To balance that above, I think I've mentioned it before, but I've encountered many times what I call 'positive racism' here in the UK, which I don't mind in the slightest - it's a conversation starter actually! - the negative forms of racism I've experienced as well - water off a ducks back to me, but other's really take offence to it etc.
Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!
